The Logistics Division, DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in collaboration with MyGov, invites citizens' suggestions and comments on the National Transport Master Plan, covering connectivity, travel experience and transport priorities for the next 10 years.

The Logistics Division, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in collaboration with MyGov, invites suggestions and comments from citizens for the preparation of the National Transport Master Plan, which will guide the country's road, railway, aviation, maritime and urban connectivity over the next 10 years.

On the occasion of the 5th Anniversary of the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (13 October 2026), this discussion seeks the on-ground experience and ideas of citizens who travel every day, whether for work, study, business or family. The aim is an integrated, multimodal and citizen-centric transport network that makes the movement of people and goods faster, safer and smoother.

Citizens are invited to share views on the following:

      1. First and last mile connectivity: how easily you can reach and leave stations, bus stands, airports and ports.
      2. Amenities and facilities in Railways and Roadways: at railway stations, bus stands, highways and rest areas.
      3. Expected travel time and experience from the National Capital to State Capitals: what is reasonable and what you actually experience.
      4. Expected travel time and experience from State Capitals to District Headquarters: what is reasonable and what you actually experience.
      5. Preferred mode of travel: Rail, Road or Air, and why.
      6. Local transport, including Metro and buses: availability, reliability, comfort and safety.
      7. Infrastructure priority: whether the Government should prioritise Roads or Railways, and why.
      8. Adherence to traffic laws: your suggestions to improve road discipline and safety.

Dear Sir, I have seven proposals, reviewed for accuracy, with estimated cost, quantified impact and international precedent 1. Multi-OEM fast-charging JV, with competition safeguards 2. 4-charger sites at priority fuel outlets, phased 3. Fuel-economy and electrification standards, not a petrol/diesel ban 4. Anchor road design on IRC; adopt selected UK DMRB safety practice 5. High-speed rail, sequenced against realistic delivery 6. Metro as a screening target (1 km per 50,000) 7. Regional airports where none is within 100 km, by viability

My Views on India’s Transport Priorities India has built impressive roads, railways, metros and airports, but the uncomfortable truth is that infrastructure on paper does not always mean convenience on the ground. My priority for the next ten years is simple: make the entire journey better, not just the main route. First and last-mile connectivity must be planned alongside stations. Clean toilets, drinking water, seating, lighting and safe rest areas should be treated as basic rights, not premium facilities. Rail should remain a strong choice for long-distance travel, while roads and air connectivity must complement it. But development cannot stop at State Capitals. Districts and smaller towns need reliable buses and better connections too. We celebrate metro expansion, but buses are still the backbone of everyday India. They need frequency, safety, cleanliness and reliability. And finally, traffic discipline cannot be blamed entirely on citizens or government.

"Regarding Point 8 (Adherence to traffic laws and road discipline), there is an urgent need for stricter ground-level enforcement and tech-driven monitoring in developing commercial hubs like CBD Belapur, Navi Mumbai. Heavy traffic violations—specifically wrong-side driving, double parking, and signal jumping—frequently compromise pedestrian safety and disrupt traffic flow. To improve nationwide road discipline, the National Transport Policy should focus on: 1. Mandating synchronized AI-based CCTV cameras at all major city junctions to automatically penalize lane-cutting and wrong-side driving. 2. Creating strictly demarcated, barrier-separated lanes for heavy commercial vehicles versus local commuter traffic. 3. Implementing stricter penalties and immediate license suspensions for repeat traffic offenders to build a stronger culture of compliance."

India should develop a safe, reliable and integrated public transport system. Bus and metro stations should have safe footpaths, pedestrian crossings and convenient first- and last-mile connectivity. Buses and trains should follow reliable schedules, with clear passenger information and clean facilities. Authorities should improve accident-prone roads, enforce traffic rules and prioritise pedestrian safety near schools and busy areas. A digital platform should allow citizens to report transport problems and track action taken. Roads and railways should both receive investment based on regional needs, passenger demand, safety and environmental impact. Regular public reports should measure improvements in travel time, accessibility and passenger experience.

Topic: Private Coach Operators as Enablers of Tourism Accessibility in North India: A Multi-Case Policy Analysis Private coach operators already carry a large share of leisure travellers into the hill and pilgrimage destinations of North India, yet the tourism literature has treated them mainly as a transport detail rather than as an accessibility mechanism. This paper asks whether, and under what conditions, privately run intercity coach services widen tourists' access to destinations in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir. It uses a desk-based multi-case design covering Zingbus, Orbit Aviation, Indo Canadian Transport, Laxmi Holidays and Neo Buses, triangulating official tourism statistics, transport regulations, court and press reports, and operator and booking-platform listings. Accessibility is assessed on six dimensions: spatial, temporal, financial, informational, inclusive-physical, and safety and trust.
