The Logistics Division, DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in collaboration with MyGov, invites citizens' suggestions and comments on the National Transport Master Plan, covering connectivity, travel experience and transport priorities for the next 10 years.

The Logistics Division, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in collaboration with MyGov, invites suggestions and comments from citizens for the preparation of the National Transport Master Plan, which will guide the country's road, railway, aviation, maritime and urban connectivity over the next 10 years.

On the occasion of the 5th Anniversary of the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (13 October 2026), this discussion seeks the on-ground experience and ideas of citizens who travel every day, whether for work, study, business or family. The aim is an integrated, multimodal and citizen-centric transport network that makes the movement of people and goods faster, safer and smoother.

Citizens are invited to share views on the following:

      1. First and last mile connectivity: how easily you can reach and leave stations, bus stands, airports and ports.
      2. Amenities and facilities in Railways and Roadways: at railway stations, bus stands, highways and rest areas.
      3. Expected travel time and experience from the National Capital to State Capitals: what is reasonable and what you actually experience.
      4. Expected travel time and experience from State Capitals to District Headquarters: what is reasonable and what you actually experience.
      5. Preferred mode of travel: Rail, Road or Air, and why.
      6. Local transport, including Metro and buses: availability, reliability, comfort and safety.
      7. Infrastructure priority: whether the Government should prioritise Roads or Railways, and why.
      8. Adherence to traffic laws: your suggestions to improve road discipline and safety.

I have suggestions in 2 areas, namely: Amenities and facilities in Railways and Roadways and Adherence to traffic laws. Railways: Problem: Unfortunately, I have read and observed that foreign and Indian tourists using trains not being cleaned quite as frequently during long journeys like ex. When travelling in long routes for 12 to 36 hours. The frequency for cleaning becomes unachievable in main and key stations en-route due to workload on staff issues. Hence it was observed that after about 20-25 stations from the starting point the trains become badly littered, bins overflowing, toilets very dirty for use. Suggestive solution: My suggestions is to use some remote village stations en-route where most trains don’t stop and pass through as “Swacch Rail Stations”. These remote village members coul

Under the Gati Shakti initiative, projects that have remained in the initial stages for a long time should be prioritized for implementation. For challenging projects, alternative execution strategies should be explored; if no such alternative is viable, the project should be formally declared abandoned. This would help manage public expectations and allow focus to shift toward other projects. Higher toll charges could be levied for highways that significantly reduce travel distance. Furthermore, regardless of the number of national highways passing through a single district, the contract for their operation and maintenance should be awarded to a single entity—essentially, one district, one toll gate. Individuals should avoid confrontational behavior at toll plazas. Toll plazas have become hotspots for criminal activity; this situation must be addressed. Basic amenities, emergency assistance, and vehicle repair services should be provided. Plant and maintain tree both side of roads

Traders and  labours are key contributors to the Prime Minister’s Gati Shakti scheme. Certified training programs related to domestic trade and supply chains should be conducted monthly at recognized government universities. Domestic trade must be boosted. To support this, arrangements should be made at ITIs (Industrial Training Institutes) in every district to provide training for warehouse personnel—covering areas such as cargo handling, operation of heavy logistics vehicles, use of electric cranes, operation of various automated machinery, and packing/crating. Priority should be given to inland waterway transport, as it is a cost-effective mode of transport. For hilly regions, state-of-the-art, international-standard ropeway systems—including rope cars and rope-based mini-buses—should be implemented under the 'Parvatmala' project, which is a component of the 'PM Gati Shakti' initiative.

Inclusive and Affordable Infrastructure for All India’s diverse geography demands faster travel through expanded railways and roads. However, modernizing infrastructure must not come at the cost of the common man. Raising fares and toll charges solely based on reduced travel time makes these improved facilities financially inaccessible to ordinary citizens, especially since their living standards have not risen in proportion to these hikes.Furthermore, highway development has significantly increased non-stop express buses, which now bypass many villages they previously served. Infrastructure projects should not deprive rural residents of essential transport connectivity. State governments must urgently regulate non-stop bus services to ensure rural areas remain connected.Any infrastructure developed must be inclusive affordable, and accessible to everyone. Since citizens endure severe hardships during the construction of these corridors, they deserve equitable access to the benefits

Proposed Solutions:* *1. One Nation, One Transport Card:* Implement a single, interoperable mobility card valid for Metro, City Bus, E-Rickshaw and Public Bike Sharing across all cities, on the lines of Delhi's One Card. This will encourage use of public transport. *2. High-Frequency Mini E-Bus System:* Instead of large buses every 15 minutes, introduce 20-seater mini electric buses every 3-5 minutes connecting interior colonies to main roads and metro stations. The Indore model has proven successful. *3. Fix Last-Mile Connectivity:* Mandate government-regulated, fixed-fare (e.g., Rs. 10) E-Rickshaw / E-Auto service at every Metro and major Bus station for a 2-3 km radius. *4. Smart Traffic Management:* a) Synchronize traffic signal timers on a single corridor to allow non-stop movement at 40 km/h (Green Wave System). b) Replace heavy fines with a Point-Based License System: 24 points per license, deduction on violation, license suspension after points exhausted.
