The Logistics Division, DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in collaboration with MyGov, invites citizens' suggestions and comments on the National Transport Master Plan, covering connectivity, travel experience and transport priorities for the next 10 years.

The Logistics Division, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in collaboration with MyGov, invites suggestions and comments from citizens for the preparation of the National Transport Master Plan, which will guide the country's road, railway, aviation, maritime and urban connectivity over the next 10 years.

On the occasion of the 5th Anniversary of the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (13 October 2026), this discussion seeks the on-ground experience and ideas of citizens who travel every day, whether for work, study, business or family. The aim is an integrated, multimodal and citizen-centric transport network that makes the movement of people and goods faster, safer and smoother.

Citizens are invited to share views on the following:

      1. First and last mile connectivity: how easily you can reach and leave stations, bus stands, airports and ports.
      2. Amenities and facilities in Railways and Roadways: at railway stations, bus stands, highways and rest areas.
      3. Expected travel time and experience from the National Capital to State Capitals: what is reasonable and what you actually experience.
      4. Expected travel time and experience from State Capitals to District Headquarters: what is reasonable and what you actually experience.
      5. Preferred mode of travel: Rail, Road or Air, and why.
      6. Local transport, including Metro and buses: availability, reliability, comfort and safety.
      7. Infrastructure priority: whether the Government should prioritise Roads or Railways, and why.
      8. Adherence to traffic laws: your suggestions to improve road discipline and safety.

India’s PM GatiShakti initiative is a visionary step under the dynamic leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji. To make it more effective, rural and remote areas should be connected through better roads and railways. Affordable public transport, road safety, clean stations, digital travel information, and eco-friendly transportation should be prioritized. Timely project completion, transparency, and coordination among departments are essential. These improvements will create employment, strengthen trade, and help build a safe, connected, and developed India. Name: Sunny Gupta Place: Kursakanta, District Araria, Bihar Class: 12th (Science)

India’s National Transport Master Plan 2026–2036 should focus on creating an integrated, safe, affordable, and citizen-centric transport network. Roads, railways, aviation, and urban transport must function seamlessly to reduce travel time, improve connectivity, and strengthen economic growth. Priority should be given to reliable public transport, first- and last-mile connectivity, modern passenger amenities, universal accessibility, and strict road-safety enforcement. Investments should be guided by regional needs, passenger demand, environmental sustainability, and long-term benefits rather than isolated infrastructure development. Digital ticketing, real-time information, coordinated schedules, and transparent performance monitoring can significantly enhance the travel experience. The ultimate success of the Master Plan should be measured by how effectively it connects people, communities, businesses, and opportunities, ensuring that every citizen experiences safe & smooth journey.

To build a seamless transport network over the next decade, India must focus on multimodal integration, safety, and operational efficiency: Bridge the gap between hubs using regulated feeder electric buses, shared micro-mobility, and dedicated non-motorized transport lanes, eliminating reliance on unregulated local transport. Upgrade station amenities with clean sanitation, universal accessibility, and smart digital displays. Highways require standardized, well-maintained rest stops with EV charging stations every 50 km. Travel times between National and State Capitals, as well as District Headquarters, must be compressed by prioritizing high-speed corridors, dedicated bus lanes, and bottlenecks removal. Rail remains the backbone for long-distance travel due to capacity and sustainability, while Metro and bus rapid transit (BRT) must form the reliable, safe, and automated core of daily urban commuting.

Infrastructure Priority: Roads or Railways?> India should adopt a "Rail Backbone, Road Connector" strategy rather than treating roads and railways as competing priorities. Improving Traffic Discipline and Road Safety> Mandatory road safety education in schools and colleges, Better lane markings, road signs and pedestrian crossings, Strong action against unsafe driving (not only fine collection) and especially deploy knowledgeable, sensible, uncorrupt traffic controllers with body cams. Infrastructure priority> Many roads, railway underpasses, service roads and urban areas face severe waterlogging during the monsoon because land levels are not planned holistically across departments. PWD, Urban Local Bodies, Town Planning Authorities and Irrigation Departments should undertake integrated land-level planning before road construction and urban development projects. PM GatiShakti planning should integrate transport infrastructure with urban planning, drainage and climate resilience.

Last-Mile Connectivity: Improve public transport and all-weather road connectivity in rural villages, remote areas and underserved regions, particularly in Tamil Nadu's rural districts. Green and Sustainable Mobility: Promote electric buses, railway connectivity, cycling tracks, pedestrian-friendly roads and renewable-energy-powered transport infrastructure to reduce pollution and carbon emissions. Digital Integration: Use GIS mapping, real-time traffic data, artificial intelligence and interoperable digital platforms to identify infrastructure gaps, reduce congestion and coordinate transport projects across departments. The government should develop a unified digital transport platform using GIS mapping, real-time traffic data and AI-assisted planning to identify infrastructure gaps, prevent duplication of projects and monitor implementation transparently. Dedicated walking and cycling paths, electric public transport.
