MyGov, the citizens’ engagement platform of the Government of India, announced a Sabka Vikas Ka Mahaquiz on Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana on March 1, 2022. The quiz was held as a part of an outreach effort to build awareness amongst the citizens, strengthening the idea of “Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayaas” by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India.

The Union Budget strikes a fine balance between providing a safety net to those reeling under the impact of the pandemic, and ensuring macro-economic stability. India has rolled out two budgets, and a slew of mini-budgets, amid an unpredictable pandemic situation that saw countries, including ours, go into lockdown. Naturally, a unique emergency situation of this magnitude warranted a one-of-a-kind fiscal response. While rich countries offered large stimulus packages, India took a staggered and calibrated route. With that, India also pushed for large reforms, which many critics snubbed as excessive and out of focus in a flailing economy.

Four Cs—continuity, correctness, conservatism and crowding-in—are the hallmarks of the Union budget for 2022-23 presented by India’s finance minister on 1 February. The budget has continued with the practice started two years ago of bringing all below-the-line items above the line. Extra-budgetary resources, in which the borrowing is guaranteed and serviced by the Union government, is restricted to a single transitional item of ₹750 crore in the current fiscal year’s revised estimates (RE). Transparency and cleaner accounting continue to be accorded the highest priority in budget-making as was the case with the previous two budgets.
