Handloom products constitute an integral part of the India’s heritage and culture. Showcasing various vibrant aspects of the cultural heritage of India, the handloom sector provides employment, directly and indirectly to over 43 lakh handloom weavers, belonging to socially and economically weaker sections of the society particularly in the rural areas.

Varanasi has a rich cultural heritage and Banaras silk sarees and crafts are an integral part of the Indian landscape. Varanasi handloom makes India proud of its heritage. The handloom and handicraft products of Varanasi have got wide recognition all over the country and abroad for their highly artistic design, colour combination, superior craftsmanship and long durability.

Keeping in view the vision of making the handloom and handicraft industry of Varanasi and neighbouring areas, market oriented and for generating productive employment, the Government of India is setting up of a Trade Facilitation Centre and a Crafts Museum to develop and promote the handlooms, handicrafts and silk products of Varanasi and to provide necessary help to weavers, artisans and entrepreneurs of Varanasi for boosting their marketing activities in domestic as well as international markets and carry forward the rich tradition of handlooms at Varanasi.Hon’ble Prime Minister of India laid foundation stone of Trade Facilitation Centre and a Crafts Museum on 7th November 2014 at BadaLalpur, Varanasi.

We need to develop on online portal that enables the craftsmen to sell their goods globally. The person's aadhar card can be linked as a user id, and also a bank account number. The sale of the articles can be done in foreign currency enabling us to strengthen the INR and also provide an extra income for the craftsman. The logistics can be handled by the local post offices, there by multiplying the employment rates

1] Trade facilitation centre should have once in 6-month buyer-seller conference with buyers invited from across the world. Buyers should be invited to meet the sellers and wholesalers. 2] Quality control should be the top priority. If something is done through Trade Facilitation Centre, Quality of that product should be taken for granted. 3] Easy loan for the artisans for the weaving equipment purchase and also TFC can order the weaving equipment in bulk to bring down the cost of equipment.

The display in Indian museums are not well presented.. The museums in the European cities like Stockholm, use Sound and Light with a good and in mild manner to provide an immersive experience to the visitor to the museum. We need use the services of the Stockholm museum expert to create an immersive experience to the visitor. Also, there should be once in 1 hour free group trip across the museum in different languages. This museum should become a must-see part of Varanasi visit.

The artisans in handloom and handicraft industry are illiterate and are not aware of new technologies. One institute, like NIFT, will help them get knowledge and help from skilled professionals. Artisans get to know better about colour combinations, newer fashionable designs and modern technology at pne place. The students in the institute can do their training programmes/ projects with the artisans and help them indirectly.
