The population of Chandigarh Urban Complex (CUC) comprising Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula has been growing fast at a rate of over 5% per year in the last decade. There has been a phenomenal growth in the population of vehicles as well especially the two and four wheelers in this period and their rising use due to rising household incomes. Chandigarh has the highest per capita income in the country. Besides nearby towns are also growing fast and have large traffic interaction with the Chandigarh. In the absence of adequate and quality mass transport system, people are using the personalized modes which is not only leading to congestion on road network but also increasing environmental pollution.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed among the Governments of Haryana and Punjab, and Chandigarh Administration for the formation of Greater Chandigarh Transport Corporation (GCTC) on Thursday for developing a comprehensive integrated multi-modal urban and suburban commuting system for the Union Territory and surrounding areas in the states of Haryana and Punjab. Also the administration has been working to develop cycling tracks all over the city.

However the citizen participation is very much required to frame a integrated and detailed urban mobility plan for “City Beautiful”. So, the Chandigarh Administration hereby invites ideas, views, opinion and suggestions from the residents so that the objective of “Smart Urban Solutions” could be achieved.

I strongly support the introduction of Metro in chandigarh connecting derabassi, mohali, chandigarh and baddi. Neat, clean, fast and affordable public transport will reduce private vehicle users.
Start Challaning, if only one person is using car.
Students below above 10 years strictly use cycle till the age of 18.
Some people trying to hijack metro project in chandigarh, they are negative people plan for next coming 50 years.

There could be a wallet attached to every vehicle registration and to run on the road one vehicle owner must possess a minimum balance in that wallet. And instead of police personnels there could be cameras and autonomous programs that will put a challan of vehicle and cut the cost off the wallet. It will make roads safe and police non corrupt. A vehicle with low wallet balance can only be stopped by the police.

Metro is also a big step in Chandigarh. This step could make a big change in Chandigarh.Currently Chandigarh is a growing city and if we have a metro facility then people could use this which will decrease the traffic and pollution issue.

The second thing which I want to say that Chandigarh could become an IT hub and it is pollution free industry

1. International Flights must be operational from Mohali international airport as it is inaugurated by our Honourable Prime Minister SH. NARENDRA MODI JI.
2. To control traffic METRO PROJECT should be cleared by our Central Government which is already delayed by 3 years.
3. There is Urgent need to construct bypass from chandimandir (near pinjore, dist. PANCHKULA) to pinjore as it daily put jam for several hours IN MAIN BAZAAR PINJORE

The city roundabouts have outlived there life. The high density roundabouts should be removed as these slowdown the movement. Any vehicle which has to turn 270 degrees, has to stop on the roundabout periphery, resulting in delays. The JW Marriott Chowk and Tribune Chowk roundabouts result in massive traffic jams during morning and evening rush hours. Converting these two roundabouts to regular crossing shall result in better flow of traffic.

1. Metro rail connectivity is a must.
2. Implementation of lane driving. The concept needs to be studied and pepper infrastructure with proper signs in roads and sign boards everywhere is a must to be able to successfully implement it.
3. Better parking facilities. Keeping in mind the areas where parking is most required proper parking facilities must be provided.
4. Public transport drivers need to be tamed. Designated lanes and ensuring them following the rules strictly.
