The population of Chandigarh Urban Complex (CUC) comprising Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula has been growing fast at a rate of over 5% per year in the last decade. There has been a phenomenal growth in the population of vehicles as well especially the two and four wheelers in this period and their rising use due to rising household incomes. Chandigarh has the highest per capita income in the country. Besides nearby towns are also growing fast and have large traffic interaction with the Chandigarh. In the absence of adequate and quality mass transport system, people are using the personalized modes which is not only leading to congestion on road network but also increasing environmental pollution.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed among the Governments of Haryana and Punjab, and Chandigarh Administration for the formation of Greater Chandigarh Transport Corporation (GCTC) on Thursday for developing a comprehensive integrated multi-modal urban and suburban commuting system for the Union Territory and surrounding areas in the states of Haryana and Punjab. Also the administration has been working to develop cycling tracks all over the city.

However the citizen participation is very much required to frame a integrated and detailed urban mobility plan for “City Beautiful”. So, the Chandigarh Administration hereby invites ideas, views, opinion and suggestions from the residents so that the objective of “Smart Urban Solutions” could be achieved.

Urgent suggestions for consideration / implementation to reduce daily evening traffic jam, at HalloMajra Chowk (Chandigarh) where on average a car takes half an hour to cross the roundabout in evening. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1o-oGF_FigzP8bF5dW-ccrIdh8EPd-A6M6d59HIntp1c/edit?usp=sharing

According to my point of view ,banned the cars of government employees in offices because only one person use the cars. One person use the one car and one car always occupies large space in roads and parking in offices. In Chandigarh mostly the person are government employees and lives in staff colony. If we provide common bus service/shuttle bus service for Up and down, then we can save lots of fuel and controls the road jams.Apply the Smart transport Intelligence system in all C.T.U buses.

Traffic jam is major problem for city. This jam is also found in office hours at chowk. I want to suggest solar traffic lights installed in all the chowks. When jam is created then they are automatically run and easily handled the traffic. This time traffic police handled traffic jam but they can not easily divert this traffic.

I have an innovative idea in my mide which I wish to share. To achieve clean energy and reduced pollution the Car can be choosen for this purpose. We need to find a technology to put solar panel at the roof top, bonet and rear area to run the car using solar energy. There is enough exterior space in small and big sized car to install solar panel. The solar panel may be designed to fit in the car. If this is achievable the pollution withh fall down dramatically.

See if you can help following things implement:
* Rail or metro connectivity to Patiala, Baddi.
* Metro connnectivity to Zirakpur, Derabassi, Pinjore.
* Few more roads to connect to West region of Chandigarh, the mullanpur side.
* Flyover at gate of PGI towards Punjab university, so that the traffic flow from mullanpur remains under control, it being the only road.
* Widening of slip road going to Panchkula near Hallomajra choak, some half of the Panchukula traffic uses it
Thanks.

What Chandigarh really needs urgently before becoming:
1) Underpasses/Flyovers on a) Tribune Chowk b) Sector 35-22 lights c) Sector 7-8-9 lights as a starts.
2) For Public Transport, the best system for Chandigarh would be Monorail. Monorail being low capacity is optimum of low population density place like Chandigarh & is aesthetically suitable for Chandigarh as well. The 1st stretch should be as follows: Tribune Chowk > Sector 43 Bus Stand > Sector 17 > PGI > Madhya Marg > Tribune Chowk.

I was thinking why dont we use solar power to run metro trains.
Solar panels can be installed above the metro track(as shown in the fig.) in an efficient way which would save large amount of money nd will automatically decrease the cost of running metro trains in many cities. The energy produced from these solar panels can be used to power metro stations also. The energy provided by distant power stations can be used to power villages where there is no electricity nd will reduce CO2.

Well..according to me traffic menace is growing day by day in Chandigarh and 4 wheelers play a major role in it.So we have to reduce the growth of 4 wheelers in the city.First of all, strict laws should be enforced restricting the number of 4 wheelers per household.E.g. In a house or family of upto 4 people, only one 4 wheeler should be allowed ,likewise upto 8 people, only two four wheelers be allowed and so on.Also, car pooling and more use of public transport should be encouraged

The perfect solution to traffic congestion in a city like Chandigarh can be use of POD cars under PRT System. The unique planning of the 'city beautiful' road system is itself a blueprint for layout of PRT. Mobility through sectors is efficient enough to ply these cars without any expenditure on designing a new set of road or rail as what may be required in a metrorail project.
Benefits:
1.Quick mode of transport
2.Eco Friendly
3.Cost efficient
I hope my input is duly looked upon.
