Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation has been selected through a competitive process for SMART City Mission initiative of Government of India. In the next phase, Coimbatore city has to compete with 98 other cities from across the country to make it into the Top 20 cities which will be taken up for the first round of funding, for the financial year 2015-16.

Citizens and stakeholders of Coimbatore are requested to post their views and suggestions on how to make Coimbatore a Smart one. The citizens may organize their thoughts on the following topics

1. What should be the Vision of the Coimbatore
2. Strengths, areas of improvement & solutions across the following sectors

a. City Spatial Structure, Transportation and Green Spaces
b. Energy, Water, Waste Water and Environment
c. Housing, Health, Education, Security, Law and Order
d. Citizen Engagement, Smart Solutions and IT-led service delivery

1. Public transport should be provided and or should be maintained properly 2. Green corridor signals should be implemented 3. Traffic system should be implemented effectively 4. Solar street lights should be implemented 5. Cleanliness of city should be improved. 6. Pedestrian pathways and cycling pathways should be developed

Basic infrastructures like roads,water facility, maintenance of public toilets and good public transport systems to be provide and should be maintained properly. Also all departments should have coordination with each other to complete task intact ( water and drainage departments always Digg the roads immediately after newly laid). Over bridges are to be constructed and completed immediately at Hope college to Vilankurichi road and Peelamedu to Gandhi ma Nagar.

Thanks to the govt for choosing Coimbatore in smart city scheme. To implement this scheme following points may be consider. 1.fly over in a prime areas like mettupalyam road koundampalyam,saibaba jovial junction, Ukkadam atthupalam,ganapathy,thudiyalur,saravanampatti,chitra,hopecollege,lakshmi mills junction, ramanathapuram, singanallur,sungam,dsp signal, women's polytechnic junction. 2.under drainage work & all electrical lines in underground. 3.metro railways. 4.international airport&road fac

Power To help the ailing industries, how about a setting up small solar power units (cost to be shared) in each cluster to cater to the medium & small industries located in that locality? Or if the Corporation could set up solar plants and sell electricity to the units?

Infrastructure 1. Solution to the water clogging in both the flyover underpasses (Avinashi Road & North Coimbatore) needs to be deviced immediately. 2. Kikani underpass widening, depending on the feasibility.

Where to start? Traffic 1. Bus stops need to be regularised. Move the bus stops away from signals ensuring smooth flow of traffic. 2. The drivers need to be oriented and educated about the need to adher to road discipline. 3. Traffic constables need to be @ all signals between 8-10 am and 5-9 pm. 4. 2&4 wheelers jumping signals should be held back at the same signal for 15minutes by the law enforcers. A punishment zone should be set up at all signals.

First the city to be made to have all the basic facilities before planning to make it a great city. Some examples are: 1. Drainage, roads and water facilities to all the areas 2. In many places the reserved sites allocated are encroached by private parties. This land should be recovered and utilized for the purpose they were allocated (like park etc.) 3. BSNL network is not available in some areas under the corporation limits. This needs to be rectified.

1) Prevent open defeacation 2) All walls in city must be converted to paintings showcasing the culture and heritage of that particular city, state and the nation. As pointed out by Mr.Premsagar, no cinema posters or other paintings

1) Bus bays must be provided and more than three stops in a single stretch can be centralised into one or two stops. New bus depots, higher frequency, newer routes must be provided 2) It is better to convert all diesel engine autorickshaws to run on alternate fuel like LPG 3) CCTV surveillance in all signals to monitor traffic violations 4) Electric trains mentioned earlier ( connect to palani, mettupalayam, salem, Guruvayur in kerala) 5) Good drainage system

1) Public transport must be brought on par with Chennai 2) More electric trains must be introduced connecting Coimbatore with nearby places 3) Ring roads and scheme roads 4) International Air connectivity and tourism development 5) Industrial corridor development,connection with other cities & ports via rail, road and air 6) Cleaning up river noyyal, tanks - Develop Parks & Walkways 7) Pedestrian pathways and bicycle tracks, multi level car park 8) Water supply improvement
