Planning is an essential step in becoming a smart city. Development should be made after proper planning. A separate commission should be established for planning.Currently planning is done after development, we often see roads being widened due to congestion. Many times we see the same being widened twice or even thrice! which results in the cutting down of a lot of trees and increases the cost of laying a road. Had the roads been laid after planning, the need to widen roads will not arise.

Travel Routes to nearby States:
The very significant part of Coimbatore is its location. Gateway for 2 nearby states Kerala & Karnataka. The routes to other states should be improved. Especial route to CBE->Mysore->Bangalore.

-Making overhead pedestrian crossing in places such as Cbe junction, Ukkadam bus stand, Singanallur bus stand and other such places
-Encouraging people to use public transport or cycles, introducing schemes like U.K's "cycle to work scheme"
-Creating an easy interface for citizens to report public issues which need to be addressed, especially for reporting road damages & requesting the repair of the same.
-Making it compulsory for a family to plant & raise a tree in the city (away from home)

Cities smaller than Coimbatore in other states like Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Chandigarh, Jodhpur, Varanasi, Amritsar, Vadodara etc, have an Urban Development Authority, But here the state gov. is not taking any initiative regarding this. This results in bad infrastructure development of the city. So first THE COIMBATORE URBAN DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY is must.
