Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation has been selected through a competitive process for SMART City Mission initiative of Government of India. In the next phase, Coimbatore city has to compete with 98 other cities from across the country to make it into the Top 20 cities which will be taken up for the first round of funding, for the financial year 2015-16.

Citizens and stakeholders of Coimbatore are requested to post their views and suggestions on how to make Coimbatore a Smart one. The citizens may organize their thoughts on the following topics

1. What should be the Vision of the Coimbatore
2. Strengths, areas of improvement & solutions across the following sectors

a. City Spatial Structure, Transportation and Green Spaces
b. Energy, Water, Waste Water and Environment
c. Housing, Health, Education, Security, Law and Order
d. Citizen Engagement, Smart Solutions and IT-led service delivery

Parks possibly with water bodies and for leisure walk Broader roads for pedestrians Clear and visible Name Boards for roads Efficient drainage systems for rain water WIFI connectivity, Repair of Roads Dividers for easy crossing Planting of trees around Cleaning and beautifying the city; including garbage bin Separate Parking places for four-wheeler

Coimbatore is pretty much the gateway to Ooty for most people, however the road to Ooty is a nightmare. While 40-50% of the stretch to Mettupalayam was boardened, Karamadai is a huge bottleneck. Leave alone the tourist, the regulars between Mettupalayam and Coimbatore face huge issues. A bypass skipping Karamadi, Mettupalayam between Coimbatore and Ooty would be an excellent thing to do.

Recycling the wastages: I recently watched a video where we can see all the possibilities of recycling wastages. This way we can avoid dumping the wastages and making issues. The Electrical,water, drainage and wired telephone and internet services should be underground where the roads have to be excavated to 12/18 feet and a standing man can walk and service underground. This can cut down costs on roads being damaged and reworked constantly.

We definitely should focus on Coimbatore's infrastructure, particularly roads. The traffic in the City nowadays makes it more horrible to commute. 1.Avinashi Road 2.Trichy Road 3.Mettupalayam Road 4.Pollachi Road 5.Perur Road 6.Marudhamalai Road 7.Sathy Road All these roads from the center of the city needs many more fly-overs. This will increase the better connectivity between different parts of the city and will help the development of the city overall. #SmartCity #Coimbatore #MyGov

As the past few days have shown, water logging is the city.s main headache. Kikani underpass and Lanka corner do not have a fixed permanent pump sets. Being major crossing points, these places should be fitted with 2-3 powerful non-air locking pump sets which can constantly pump out water as and when it flows in and not after its filled up. This can ensure water is never stagnant there. Preventing mud and slush from depositing in the underpasses is also essential to prevent slippery surfaces.

Singanallue rl.way station is near Airport and If metro train is introduced there should be connectivity with Airport through singanallur like Chennai. It will be very useful and people can use both Air and Rail.

Once Sowripalyam road is widened it should have a connectivity with Neelikonampalyam (Singanallur Railway station). Already 2 bride work is there. If it is properly connected easy access will be available to Airport etc. If the Singanallur Railway station is made big and If all trains stops there. People can get easy access to New central bus stand near Vellalore (All ready bridge is going near singanallur). Road facility will be also available if properly widened.

If v speak about Coimbatore Avinashi Road,Trichy Road That's all. Both the roads now a days meets many traffic conjunction. But there is another road middle of this 2 roads named Sowripalayam road. It starts near Sungam junction and ends near Vardharajapuram. If that widened properly and encroachment to be removed and corpn.should acquire land properly and use it for widening. It will help more to avoid road conjuction.

Road safety has to be improved! Public/private buses, trucks, etc. drive ruthlessly in highways like Pollachi Road, Ooty Road etc leading to increased accidents every year. There has to be an enlightenment brought in driver/people's mind to respect the value of human life and be responsible drivers. Traffic police and the relevant authorities have to take strict action against rash/drunken driving and issue heavy penalties, cancel of license etc. Smart city definitely needs disciplined traffic.
