The role of institutions of higher education in societal development is becoming increasing significant. In recent years, higher education has isolated itself from the society and there is a need to re-establish and strengthen higher education’s close linkages with the society. How can Universities foster social responsibility and engage in community outreach programmes. Sharing some working examples would also be a useful input.

 The maintenances of most of Navodaya Vidyalayas and Kendriya Vidyalayas are very dilapidated and precarious conditions. If the management of these schools would be done on the basis of Public and private partnership then the quality of these schools would be increased.

 Government has also been spending huge money in the mid day- meals but quality of meals not only poor but it also disturbs the study of the students. Instead of mid- day mills, if the Government would give direct scholarship to the students then the drop out percentage of students also will be decreased.

 The present Continuous and comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) pattern of education has degraded the standards of students and schools. So this pattern should be abolished and in place of it student evaluation of class work and home work (10 marks) should be given to students by the teachers. That is Summative Assessment should be 90 marks and 10 marks should be Class work and Home work assessment for the benefit of the students.

 Government has been spending huge money in the various divisive and selective scholarships like Rajiv Gandhi Fellowship, Maulama Abdul Kalam Ajad Minority Fellowship, GRF, CSR and other fellowship. In this way Government has been spending average Rs. 3000 per student but some students are getting benefits from it and others are being deprived of it. Instead of number of fellowship government should provide single and integrated fellowship to all the students from class I to PhD.
