The National Commission for Women, a Statutory Body set up in January 1992 under the National Commission for Women Act, 1990 has the mandate to safeguard the constitutional and statutory rights of women. The Commission initiates program which aids empowerment and holistic development of women so that they are capable to gain access to opportunities and make their own decisions.

International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women was launched in 2000 by the U.N General Assembly. It is observed annually on November 25th. International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women seeks to raise awareness about violence against women. This day aims to eliminate violence by removing stigma and encouraging women to speak out against abusers. This day defines violence against women as any act of gender-based violence that results in or is likely to result in, physical, sexual, or psychological harm to women. The goal of this day is to achieve equality, development, and peace. It aims toward the fulfillment of women's and girls’ human rights.

In pursuance of its mandate and in order to achieve the goal of ‘Elimination of Violence against Women', the Commission invites inputs, suggestions, and feedback from all stakeholders through MyGov Portal, with a focus on Breaking the Silence against Gender Violence. The aim of the programme is to promote equality, development, and peace among the masses.

The last date to receive suggestions/input is 24th December 2021.

Create awareness on the matter, let people know what is considered a normal act and what constitutes abuse/assault. Let them be aware of how they can report such a person and what all consequences the accused can face. Instead of treating assault/abuse as a stigma of society, I think we all, as a nation, can work towards addressing the intensity and frequency of events like these both in urban and rural areas.

Alcohol should be banned in India. Alcohol is the major cause. When cause is eliminated, its effect violence at home will be eliminated. Excise duty can be earned when productivity will increase without alcohol especially in agriculture area. If it cannot be banned make it very expensive that one can only taste it.

My views & suggestions: 1.Campaigns like "Me Too" will provide voice to affected person 2.Violence in remote & rural belt goes unnoticed, for this "Aasha workers" can mentor, counsel, educate adult persons 3.Self help group formation at ALL levels from urban to remote rural areas 4.Most importantly gender bias & isolation should be eliminated saying women centric or men centric policies thereby equalising ALL 5.With reach & penetration of mobile simple app for emergency SOS calls to helpdesk.

Elimination of violence against women can be successful only when women accept that violence is been done to them. secondly, they must have confidence to raise their voice against the violence, for this mentality of women as well as society should be changed to positive. Laws must be strictly followed and punishments must be made more severe. The culprit must be afraid not the women. For false cases there should be rigorous punishment so that no false case is charged in future.

As far as the family violence on women is concerned most of the problems are based on sudden financial problems in the family for their food, medical marriage, and relationship. In some cases, the women always obey what her husband says. In some cases, the woman did not obey her husband even he is right. Some women or girls are not mentally well sometimes. In these cases, the women are beaten by the father or elders as she violently makes abusive talks and deeds.

I have some personal experiences from the year 1982 when I did my M.SC at Madurai Kamaraj University, until now. Some of the girls are not faithful to the boyfriends or man friend to whom they first liked. If an adult boy/ unmarried man had a friendship with an adult girl in public, then other adult girls and women do not have any personal relationship with that boy/man in India. If the girl suddenly loves/marries another man, then there is violence on the girl. She is responsible.
