The District Administration Baghpat invites citizens, youth, innovators and institutions from across India on MyGov to share innovative and practical ideas to transform the Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela into a Zero Waste Mahotsav on theme “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi”.

Building on the successful implementation of a Zero Waste model during Falguni Mahashivratri 2026 celebrations, this initiative aims to further strengthen sustainable practices and develop Baghpat as a model for green and responsible religious gatherings in India.

Aligned with the vision of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), Swachh Bharat and sustainable tourism, the initiative promotes environmentally responsible behaviour, reduction of waste, resource efficiency and community participation in large public events.

What kind of ideas are we looking for?
1. Participants are encouraged to submit practical, scalable and innovative ideas in areas such as:
a. Waste management and zero waste systems
b. Plastic-free alternatives for melas and religious events
c. Eco-friendly materials and green infrastructure
d. Awareness campaigns and behavioural change strategies
e. Volunteer and youth engagement models
f. Use of technology (apps, QR-based services, monitoring systems, etc.)
g. Sustainable tourism and visitor management

How to participate?
1. Submit your idea in maximum 200–300 words
2. Focus on solutions that can be practically implemented on ground
3. You may include examples, models or case references

What will happen to your ideas?
Selected ideas will be reviewed by the District Administration and considered for implementation during the Shravani Mahashivratri Mela scheduled in second week of August 2026. Selected contributions may also be recognised as part of a district-led innovation initiative and documented as good practices.

This is an opportunity to contribute to building a national model of sustainable religious events, promote environmental responsibility, and strengthen citizen participation in governance. Your ideas can help demonstrate how tradition, technology and sustainability can work together for a better future.

The Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela can become a model “Zero Waste Mahotsav” through practical and community-driven solutions under the theme “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi.” Color-coded waste bins for wet, dry and hazardous waste should be installed across the mela area with volunteer support for segregation. Organic temple waste such as flowers and leaves can be converted into compost or incense sticks, a model already used in several temple towns of Maharashtra. To reduce plastic waste, vendors should use kulhads, leaf plates, bamboo cutlery and cloth bags. Similar plastic-free initiatives in Sikkim and Indore proved highly effective. Free water refill stations can further reduce plastic bottle waste. A “Green Volunteer Sena” involving NSS, NCC and local youth can guide visitors about cleanliness and sustainable practices. QR-based systems for maps, donations and waste reporting can improve management.

A “Digital Queue Management System” can reduce overcrowding and paper waste by allowing pilgrims to check waiting times through QR codes and LED screens. This will improve crowd movement and reduce unnecessary congestion around the temple area.
