National Statistical Office (NSO) under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) is undertaking the Base Revision Exercise of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) to ensure that the index remains aligned with the current structure and dynamics of India’s industrial sector.

As part of this initiative, MoSPI has released a Discussion Paper 1.0 titled “Substitution of Factories in the Compilation of the Index of Industrial Production”, which details the proposed methodology for the upcoming IIP series and seeks to enhance accuracy and representativeness in future compilations.

The Ministry invites views, comments, and suggestions from experts, academicians, Central & State Government departments, financial institutions, industry bodies, and all other stakeholders. Feedback may be shared at: iipcso@nic.in

Dynamic pricing applicable in railways. But there is a price cap. But airlines don't have same type price cap.e.g. example on 4th Dec,25, Delhi to Kolkata fare 15k to 25k for journey of 7th Dec. Where as normal fare 5k to 8k. The ticket can available for Dubai/Singapore/Thailand/Hongkong etc. with double flying time in the range of 15to20k. It seems govt. has no control over airline pricing or no regulatory authority. Common people bear the burnt. Politician enjoying their previledge. Airlines monopoly continuing. Request the concern govt. to look into the matters.

The new set of sample factories will determine the estimates based on current factories with its present activities to ascertain the robust picture of Indian economy as a whole. The opportunity is also develops to think over the proposed methodology to be adopted for designing the index. The National Statistical Commission will provide the guidance to get reliable results for incorporating interventions for Vikshit Bharat.

The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) is one of the most essential indicators used to measure the growth and performance of a country’s industrial sector, especially in manufacturing, mining and electricity. It shows how much production has increased or decreased compared to a base year. Because industries keep changing over time, with new companies entering the market and old units closing down, it becomes necessary to keep the IIP updated so that it reflects the true position of industrial activity. One important method used to maintain this accuracy is the substitution of factories. Substitution of factories simply means replacing old, closed, non-reported or irrelevant factories with new and active ones in the data collection system. Since the IIP is based on monthly production reports from a fixed list of factories, any change in these factories directly affects the accuracy of the index. If a factory that was included in the original sample stops working, shuts down permanent.

When substitution is needed, a new factory is selected based on the requirement and the criteria..Its methodological formula used for accuracy and representation of development over time..
