In the recently concluded Rio Olympics 2016, India sent its largest ever Olympic contingent comprising of 118 athletes. Despite the large number of athletes, the Indian contingent managed to bag only 2 medals in the Games viz., one Silver medal in Badminton and one Bronze medal in Wrestling. Considering the size of our country it can be said that the present performance was not up to the country’s potential. Views/suggestions are invited on what specific steps need to be taken to realise full sporting potential of India in forthcoming Olympics in 2020, 2024 and 2028.

It is known that for any person to become world class, 10000 hours of practice is needed. For our kids to excel in a competition like olympics the training has to start quite early. My submission below: 1-Assign one sports manager in every school of the country. His job is to identify sports talents by conducting different sports event and competition. 2-Every sports manager also report to a national sports talent hunt body. Which has a laid out talent hunt plan. This will funnel out talent.

I agree with almost all posts submitted earlier. We need to introduce sports as a practical subject at school level and the student should have option to leave any other subject like maths or English or history etc. In fact like skill development campaign we must have sports and performing arts development campaign. These subjects should be integral part of the main stream education and children should have option of choosing these subjects like music, classical dance, football, gymnastics.

We have many community which have inbuilt inborn capacity of Olympic games. These people's presently shows these games in cities for daily livelihood. These people does not have permanent residence. Training to them will brought them in main stream of society. I am auditing a society which is doing work such community. We are planning to give training to them for Olympic games.

In India most of the population is worried about earning money, even if the student is having a talent he is forced to stop his sports activity and divert his focus on to studies as there is little hope that he can get a job with sports as a profession. Instead identified students who are excel in sports from each state are to be assured of job and let them give their full effort on to their sport. Let those students to be nurtured in sport university with proper guidance of coaches.

1. Sports event like Olympics we very demanding and a lot of time is required to prepare an athlete for Olympics. We need to give opportunity to youngsters of our tribal people and rural folks with proper training and infrastructure for sports like wrestling, archery etc by identifying them early. 2. Sports management and selection procedure for both national and international events must be fair and strictly on the basis of merit and it must be kept away from political intervention.

We are trained to be studious and not a sportsmen, because parents believe that once yr game ends, the sportsmen have to kick off for a career again.. and this fear being from a middle class family, i understand is owing to financial instability. I would suggest like we have pension funds.... why can we not set up a fund through which a sportsmen are provided with a guaranteed stipend for say 20 years or 30 years. say a state level gets 10000 rs for 10 years, olympic level gets 20000 an so on..

Training of school teachers, they should encourage sports rather than scolding children for playing. Regular sports staff at schools, transparent selection procedures as many prefer their or referred favourites ones. De-politicisation of sports. Regular audits of staff and expenditure. Counselling of sports persons at regular intervals.
