We must encourage contract farming - this gives a stable committed money. Maybe govt can build some good policies to take care of setting the rules (on behalf of marginal farmers) . However if some farmers can find a good leader amongst themselves who can take the responsibility of co-ordinating the timely pickup/delivery of the goods, the localities farmers should have the option to opt to go outside the system.

Losses are mainly due to poor storage & handling. Increase warehousing standards for God's sake!

1. Infrastructure is the main key to reduce the loss the solution is by inducing more private firms
2. Black marketer should be punished
3. Eliminate middle man which is the reason we have to face heavy loss
4. Increase awareness between the farmer communities
5. Training and camp for the farmer and all the related people how to reduce post-harvest loss
6. Government should invest more in R&D to tackle supply chain issue.
7. Policy reform on supply chain front
8. Insurance pool system

Systems should be made such as transportation should be done directly from the farmers, there should be special air-conditioned warehouses to store fruits and vegetables

HAVE A PRICE-BAND FOR EACH VEGETABLE ITEM. Example - POTATO SHOULD HAVE A PRICE BAND OF Rs.10-20. THIS BAND SHOULD BE DETERMINED BY THE COST OF PRODUCTION BY FARMERS+TRANSPORT+SELLER'S PROFIT. IT SHOULD BE ENSURED THAT FARMERS GET THEIR PRODUCTION COST ALWAYS. TRANSPORT+SELLER'S PROFIT SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO CROSS A REASONABLE AMOUNT i.e. AROUND Rs.10/-. IF THERE IS A GLUT & FARMERS CANNOT SELL AT HIS COST PRICE, GOVT SHOULD PURCHASE & DISTRIBUTE AT PDS SHOPS, MOTHER DIARIES etc.

In this cercumstances, modification and adaptation needed at every level of post harvest activities i.e. from handling to marketing. This only needs a systematic plan and proper execution like fruits & veg. Grading on ripeness will be benificial to decide transportation length and destination as well as which going to spoil readiy can go for preservation in diffrent form.
