The digital space has witnessed major transformations in the last couple of years and as per industry experts would continue to evolve itself. The latest entrant to the digital space is the Internet of Things (IoT). IoT can also be defined as interplay for software, telecom and electronic hardware industry and promises to offer tremendous opportunities for many industries.

With the advent of the Internet of Things (IoT), the number of connected sensors soon will reach trillions, working with billions of intelligent systems involving in-numerous applications will drive new consumer and business behaviour. The demand for increasingly intelligent industry solutions based on IoT will drive trillions of dollars in opportunity for IT industry and even more for the companies that take advantage of the IoT.

One of the top most initiatives in the form of Digital India Program of the Government which aims at ‘transforming India into digital empowered society and knowledge economy’, is expected to provide the required impetus for development of the IoT industry ecosystem in the country.

Department of Electronics and Information Technology,(DeiTY) has come out with a draft IOT Policy document which focuses on following objectives:

i. To create an IoT industry in India of USD 15 billion by 2020. It has been assumed that India would have a share of 5-6% of global IoT industry.

ii. To undertake capacity development (Human & Technology) for IoT specific skill-sets for domestic and international markets.

iii. To undertake Research & development for all the assisting technologies.

iv. To develop IoT products specific to Indian needs in all possible domains.

The Policy framework of the IoT Policy has been proposed to be implemented via a multi-pillar approach. The approach comprises of five vertical pillars (Demonstration Centres, Capacity Building & Incubation, R&D and Innovation, Incentives and Engagements, Human Resource Development) and 2 horizontal supports (Standards & Governance structure).

I feel the best way to fuel this industry is to encourage the Indian citizens to create technology/internet based startups in the country itself rather than moving abroad due to lack of opportunities in this space. The best way to encourage this would be through first round of funding where the government acts as the first round of investors. This way startups can get kickstarted with government approval and benefits. The startups can be exempt from paying taxes at early thr stages (Rajive Pai).

All government departments must need online software’s that connected to their head departments and their minister’s office. All activities happening there departments available in online any of their departments heads can view any time. Implementing online application for all government needs will reduce the corruption, and also implement a punching system and performance appraisal for Government employees should increase their productivity.

Block offensive Websites. These websites make internet traffic conjunction and we are wasting too much bandwidth space in vain. Hence, important/useful websites takes longer time to load because ISPs are busy with too much useless websites.

Can we formulate a policy where, Govt can give subsidies/tax exemption for IOT startups? We Indians being 40% of brain NASA has, I dont see a lack of talent to make India an IOT tech hub and begin a next level of revolution in Technology.

Digital India can be broader. I would request Policy Makers at DeiTy to read The Third Industrial Revolution by Jeremy Rifkin. I am attaching a short presentation (http://tinyurl.com/ooflbde ) that presents Third Industrial Revolution which is currently going on with the convergence of internet technologies and renewable energy. The first IR being a convergence of coal power and printing press and the second being a convergence of electricity from fossil fuels and radio / TV communications.

The Draft IOT Policy should include Energy and the Electricity Transmission Network which can also be used for communication through smart grid, power line communications (PLC) and Broadband over Power LInes (BPL) technologies. Meters at substations, industries, commercial offices and residences can transmit data through power lines besides a variety of devices including electrical vehicles. Smart grids will allow more distributed energy from Renewables (rooftop solar and small wind projects).

आपके घर मे अगर चोरी होती है तो ईसका मतलब, आपके परोस मे ही इनफॉर्मर रहता है. उसी तरह हमारे देश मे आतंकबाद की मदत देश की ही कुछ लोग कर रहे है.
