The digital space has witnessed major transformations in the last couple of years and as per industry experts would continue to evolve itself. The latest entrant to the digital space is the Internet of Things (IoT). IoT can also be defined as interplay for software, telecom and electronic hardware industry and promises to offer tremendous opportunities for many industries.

With the advent of the Internet of Things (IoT), the number of connected sensors soon will reach trillions, working with billions of intelligent systems involving in-numerous applications will drive new consumer and business behaviour. The demand for increasingly intelligent industry solutions based on IoT will drive trillions of dollars in opportunity for IT industry and even more for the companies that take advantage of the IoT.

One of the top most initiatives in the form of Digital India Program of the Government which aims at ‘transforming India into digital empowered society and knowledge economy’, is expected to provide the required impetus for development of the IoT industry ecosystem in the country.

Department of Electronics and Information Technology,(DeiTY) has come out with a draft IOT Policy document which focuses on following objectives:

i. To create an IoT industry in India of USD 15 billion by 2020. It has been assumed that India would have a share of 5-6% of global IoT industry.

ii. To undertake capacity development (Human & Technology) for IoT specific skill-sets for domestic and international markets.

iii. To undertake Research & development for all the assisting technologies.

iv. To develop IoT products specific to Indian needs in all possible domains.

The Policy framework of the IoT Policy has been proposed to be implemented via a multi-pillar approach. The approach comprises of five vertical pillars (Demonstration Centres, Capacity Building & Incubation, R&D and Innovation, Incentives and Engagements, Human Resource Development) and 2 horizontal supports (Standards & Governance structure).

Dear Sir, This is Raj Singh (Microsoft certified Trainer) from Mumbai. I was trained many Pvt. & Gov. Organization in Mumbai & India. The problem I was realized that “we have so many Policy, software & websites but people don't know how to use, they don't know how to use applications in faster way". From my point of view 1st provide them a Good computer Training for all Applications. e.g. "1st learn how to drive a car then purchase a CAR". Training is very imp for all. JAI HIND

When ee talk about digital india we should remember that if we want to be successful in this field we should drive an awareness campaign against the using of bulbs which are being used almost in every rural area or government should ban on bulb manufacturing and people must be motivated to use LED or CFL instead of bulbs to save energy

A massive campaign is required to bring awareness about IoT. Though the technology is more than 20 years old, most of the Indians I talked about don't know about IoT. Awareness building is a must before launching any policy. We can start this from our schools and colleges. IoT should be included in school curriculum. Dedicated institutes will help us in developing this technology.

Sir in UK, the income arising out of royalty payments from patents has been tax exempted. Can the IoT policy draft include a similar clause of tax exemption for revenues arising from royalties for patents in IoT areas? The money saved by companies in tax exemption can be plowed back in reserach and development.

Sir request you to add in the IoT policy to start a dedicated university(s) or course(s) to train students in Internet of Things. Already in the UK Staffordshire university and Queen Mary University, London have started a courses in IoT. Few years back sensing the need for trained manpower in VLSI, Govt. Of India started CDAC. I got trained for CDAC and got benefited. I am working for a company in the UK, which also works on IoT.

I feel there is a need to create a mobile app which will help identify skilled labor around that area. i.e i want an electrician to fix my light i could post my requirement on that app and this app sends this info to all electrician close to that area so that i can get quick service and this will also create more employment. All skilled labor could register them self on this app and keep them self available or busy for the same. The app should allow to rate such labor.
