Under UJALA scheme, the main objective is to promote efficient lighting, enhance awareness on using efficient equipment which reduces electricity bills and helps preserve the environment. Efficient light bulbs, like LEDs, consume only one-tenth of the energy used by ordinary bulbs to provide the same or better light output. So, we ask you to suggest ways for promoting the use of LEDs on this open discussion forum.

1AC consumes power of 40 tubelights... This euphoria about LED is like being penny wise and pound foolish... Instead egforts to be diverted towards other energy saving measures such as to have NEMA premium grade efficiency motors for all household and industrial applications mandatorily with periodic energy audits... It would save more electricity than switching to led and will need less investment too.. Also more no of distribution transformers to be there contd...

....contd... Even in respect of less power LEDs also, the following Footnote need clarification before recommending its use. Footnote 2 – Legal requirements In Europe, the Low Voltage Directive requires products operating between 50 and 1000 V to conform to the 60825-1 standard. However, there are moves to extend this down to 0 V, which is sensible since, as Lasermet’s Robert Wells points out, “You can get an awful lot of optical power [from laser or LED sources] at 48V.”

At a recent LEDs workshop in the UK, Andrew Dennington of Carclo Technical Plastics, presenting a series of optical design tips, also included a word of caution; “The latest generation of LEDs is not safe, and someone will have their eyes damaged by a high-power LED product,” he warned. “Check your products to the relevant standards.”..... In view of the above, How use of such will be useful UNLESS IT IS NOT EXPOSED DIRECTLY TO HUMAN EYE.

Hello Team As we know that Hospitality sector (Hotels) and Mall are consuming are lot of energy Theref hotel & mall cfl bulb can be exchanged with led bulb . I had personally put these observation during course of audit conduct by me in 5 star property, not only these the cost incurred by the hotel in changing into cfl will be recovered in 2 to 3 year. In India there are more than 60000 hotel room. Government could also provide special tax benefit in income tax by providing150%deduction

Now it is time to ban ordinary bulb (tungsten bulbs) manufacturing and exempt CFL and LED from all taxes to make it cheaper. It would be a great step to save energy.

I feel all electrical gadgets like washing machine, refrigerators, water heaters/coolers, water pumps, tv's, ACs, mixes, wet grinders should have energy totalers as these gadgets consume major energy at home. Compact rugged electronic circuit with displays. Indicating hrs run/energy consumption. Average Energy consumption as per manufacturer. This can be incorporated in new gadgets so the consumer can get rid of the gadgets when old not economical to run. This can be a national saving of energy

Use of LED Bulbs must be incouraged mostly in rural areas. As Rural areas are more in number than the urban areas in our country. This movement can be named as LIGHT REVOLUTION , awareness can be made by using visual representation . Hope I will come up with it soon
