Under UJALA scheme, the main objective is to promote efficient lighting, enhance awareness on using efficient equipment which reduces electricity bills and helps preserve the environment. Efficient light bulbs, like LEDs, consume only one-tenth of the energy used by ordinary bulbs to provide the same or better light output. So, we ask you to suggest ways for promoting the use of LEDs on this open discussion forum.

Since Gov is successful in distributing LPG subsidy direct to benefictor, thru Aadhar linked account.. Should use the same principal and use Post office and LPG distributor for PoS ..Since Post office department is an sinking department ideal use of resource and asset it carries should be made use effectively.

Every one knows the usefulness of LED lights. The main problem is their high prices. Govt should see as to how can the prices of LED lights be reduced.

At first Government should replace all the airports, railway stations, bus stations nd street lights also the government offices with led lights and make the maximum use of solar panels for electricity generation, this would help in a lot of electricity savings because these are the places where electricity is used 24x7. And the UJALA initiative taken by the government will do take care of households electricity saving.

Our Power minister is doing great job of electrifying villages which never seen electricity. I think to increase usage of LEDs, we can provide these newly electrified villages with LEDs. We can also distribute LEDs to Panchayats and ask them to distribute these LEDs as mandatory lighting source at houses in their villages. Keep the prices of LEDs and encourage the use of LEDs thorugh schools, colleges and government offices where students, villagers visit the most.

(1) More Discounts for more & more LED Bulb purchases should be given by Govt. (2) Compulsoru usage of LED Bulbs in all Govt. Offices, in Govt. Quarters, in Railways, BSNL, LIC, etc. (3)SEPARATE LOWER EB TARIFF FOR LED LIGHTS (wherever LED Bulbs are used, though it may be difficult ). (4) All PVT. companies like PHILIPS, BAJAJ, SURYA, WIPRO, etc. TO BE GIVEN DISCOUNTS FOR MANUFACTURE / SALE OF LED BULBS. (5) LED BULBS TO BE MADE AVAILABLE IN RATION / PDS SHOPS (continuous entry in Ration Card ).

Quality LED bulbs at lower costs is the key to promote their use. The various Tax imposing bodies including State Governments should not be allowed to impose taxes on this item but should be directed to subsidize their sale. Remember Goa Govt. increasing taxes on LED bulbs in their Budget. A clear cut National Policy not to impose taxes on this item and ensuring good quality standards would help making them popular and save the energy...

Need more transparent information on fair LED pricing and certification, as there are multiple new brands and a wide price range today - which is confusing.
