Under UJALA scheme, the main objective is to promote efficient lighting, enhance awareness on using efficient equipment which reduces electricity bills and helps preserve the environment. Efficient light bulbs, like LEDs, consume only one-tenth of the energy used by ordinary bulbs to provide the same or better light output. So, we ask you to suggest ways for promoting the use of LEDs on this open discussion forum.

Incentivise people using LEDs through discounts on domestic Gas, Petrol/diesel bills, mobile/landline bills, electricity bills. Run awareness campaigns through mobile ads, monthly bills, sms, emails. Create online portal/mobile app for information on savings on electricity bills, contribution to energy saving pool, on availability of LEDs at nearest centres. Create point system to be redeemed on subsequent purchase or any other services. Tag the sale with EB customer ID to prevent diversion.

Cost effective measurements to be shared and explained to every householder, so that this mission's success shall be automated. Also brightness of the bulbs should be improved by manufacturers which will enhance utilization. Though there are different volts available but high voltage bulbs have to be manufactured with little low cost to encourage usage more and more. The more the usage lesser should be the cost... Government should comeup with such schemes to manufacturers and encourage utility.

The high cost of led bulb giving a negative effect to poor people. We can do one thing;- 1) see ones electric bill of last six month(avg) 2) Install free LED bulbs in his house. 3) continue the same old avg elect bill(after use of LED bulb the bill will become less) till the time of recovering the cost of the LED bulb fitted in his house.

To distribute and increase awareness in resident ares, do something like political parties do during elections. i.e fill up a mini-tempo with subsidized LED bulbs, stick some ad/awareness posters on the tempo's walls, play a recording on a portable loud-speaker. Halt the tempo at different locations so that people can buy bulbs. nothing beats this kind of a campaign.

It will be good to collect old CFL & FILAMENT BULBS and exchange them with LED bulbs in all govt offices and private firms. Neon & Halogen street lamps must be replaced with appropriate LED bulbs. These steps will save enough power to compensate investment in LED bulbs as well as to stop power-cuts due to shortage of Electricity.

Govt. should made it mandatory for all the departments to start using LED's , this will bring a major change and order to use LED's for street lights as well and should also increase the no of retailers of subsidized LED's.
