India faces many natural hazards, including floods, cyclones, drought etc. But every hazard need not turn into a disaster. By careful planning, capacity building, early warning, community participation, procurement and pre-positioning of necessary equipment and resources, participation of civil society, assigning clear role to the private sector, involving panchayati raj institutions and urban local bodies, rigorous enforcement of techno-legal regime on land use and building regulations etc., significant reductions of losses can be brought about in such events. We have a national policy on disaster management, at http://ndmindia.nic.in/NPDM-101209.pdf

We have created a number of institutions by way of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, which may be seen at http://ndmindia.nic.in/acts-rules/DisasterManagementAct2005.pdf

What more can be done to enhance our preparedness to handle natural disasters?

Hon'ble PM, Here I would like to put into your notice about the policy of distributing Bravery Awards. Is it advisable to deny the dues to a brave soldier in the name of National security? A Jawan of a force when commits an event, due to the nature of that border he is decorated with Gallantry. In the same time when similar act is performed by another son of Mother India in another area, it is never even brought to the light.

When the goverment knows that particullar area is flood prone govt should create canals so that flood water flows through this channel and this water is diverted to areas where there is drought like situation or to a river which is dry can be used what is required is proper planning and implementation, the flood prone dwelling areas should be shifted to hills nearby instead of the plains or the dwellers can be advised to make houses such that they can shift to the upper floor of the house

Beti bachao.... scheme is taking shape but what about our Beti's respect that is going into the drain these days?. Rape being the foremost, but my heart pains these days to see Beti's respect in the name of love or lust getting destroyed on the internet by their so called paramours releasing their intimate videos. What is the government doing on this? shouldn't these people too be booked under the strictest law. Make honor killing applicable to these culprits for even Bhagwadgita accepts of it
