India is among 51 countries to sign the “Rome Declaration” on “Achieving Self-sufficiency in Safe Blood and blood products based voluntary non-remunerated donation”. Blood is an intrinsic requirement for health care and proper functioning of the health system. National AIDS Control Organization under Department of Health and Family Welfare has been primarily responsible for ensuring provision of safe blood for the country since 1992. National Blood Policy 2003 reiterates firmly the government’s commitment to provide safe and adequate quantity of blood, blood components and blood products.

However, in India, a needy patient or his relatives have to run from pillar to post in search of blood and the onus of procurement of blood still lies with the patient and not with the service provider.

Suggestions are invited on how to develop a nationally coordinated and well networked blood transfusion service in the country and reach 100% voluntary blood donation to enable us to meet the global goal of self sufficiency in blood and blood products.

As I am from Gujarat, I know that Gujarat is socially safer than many other states in India, probably because drinking and selling alcohol has been banned earlier. Can't we do this for the whole country?

first of all, think about banning the tobacco and alcohol in all over the country as you have done in Gujarat. Help the addicted people by use of medicines and doctors that will guide them how to leave these kind of habits. This will also lead to a clean India and a safer India. all of us know that smoking kills, tobacco kills etc. then why they are not being banned, i can't understand. Think of basic things first. then you make further plans for national health.

India is the diabetic capital of world. One theory suggests that the stress caused at work environment because of incapable managers is causing such health hazards. India has the highest slavery in the world as per international survey organizations. Like uneducated doctors should not be sent for surgery, unqualified managers should not deal with people. This can cause psychological as well as physical diseases.

Our existing medical training system is so weak that even after completing five & half years of MBBS course most of the doctors are not able to manage basic emergency. Because there os less emphasis on practical training and no quality control on medical education. This same goes for postgraduate courses. Being trained in one of the best medical college in India i jave observed that 3 years of extensive PG teaching fails to produce desirable level of specialist doctors. Dear PM do something.
