Shortlisted as one of the smart cities, Bhubaneswar today is a model of livability evident by the city’s stable growth rate in the recent decades. On the other hand, the city faces challenges that are negative consequences of urbanization faced by many cities. We now suffer from a growing threat to losing our open spaces to urban sprawl, increasing private vehicle ownership, and recently being ranked 25th among the 28 state capitals under the Swachh Bharat Mission.

The challenge now before us - in shaping the Bhubaneswar for the next generation - is to strategically leverage our strengths as we grow, while turning around the negatives. With your participation, the Bhubaneswar Smart City Proposal will provide solutions to ensure a sustainable, inclusive and resilient future for all its citizens. In order to succeed in this ambitious mission. WE need YOU!

We invite the residents of Bhubaneswar to share their views and thoughts on the most pressing challenges that the citizens face to turn Bhubaneswar into a Smart City?

The governance system shall be very proactive and interact with the citizens on a regular basis.Whatever amenities, new social schemes the government launch it shall reach through professional marketing to every household in the city of Bhubaneswar.

In my view there shall be a behavioral change in the citizens of Bhubaneswar. For example until and unless the citizens of Bhubaneswar assist and help in maintaining the free flow of traffic system on the city roads, it is never going to change. The citizens shall be very disciplined during driving and shall obey the traffic rules and regulations. There shall automated traffic control system and the administration shall impose heavy penalty on those whoever breaks the traffic laws.

I think for any smart city energy is a big concern.Since now a lot of new buildings would come up, I feel most of those buildings should have solar panels installed to make the city energy sufficient or maybe even surplus. Moreover Led bulbs could be used.

Provide shelters and make provisions to rehabilitate poor and destitutes. There is no point being tagged as smart city where people are begging everywhere for two times food. Create mass alert systems in situations e.g. traffic, disasters, health and other emergencies. Make NO HONK zones around schools, hospitals. Make systematic parking arrangements around the educational institutes, markets, hospitals. Organize Townhall meetings to know citizens complaints at grassroot level.

my observations reflect there is large no of casual labour in Bhubaneswar, so why not lets develop a system for them....say we can provide a online portal where they can register as SHG, and than local construction and other enterprises approach them. in that case building skills and growth will be easy and than can overlap NULM

inclusion:I am guessing we already have many policies which can contribute in providing basic services ( AMRUT ,Housing for all, swachh bharat, certain components in NULM). only smart city give us to explore few options which are bit different for the usual one.... if we recall the concept note the main focus was employment and quality of life, quality of life is still in picture but employment over the time got diluted.
