The State Transport Authority (STA), U.T., Chandigarh has initiated a citywide enforcement campaign against the illegal and pollution causing vehicles, especially diesel auto-rickshaws that had been plying in the city. This drive had been initiated in the entire city to take a firm step towards creating a pollution free environment in the city, keeping in mind the larger public health concerns of the residents.

As per the latest data submitted by the Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee (CPCC), there has been a significant decline in the various pollutants including SPM, RSPM, SO2, and NOx in various places of Chandigarh being monitored by CPCC over the past two weeks, ever since the drive was started by the State Transport Authority.

Meanwhile, to facilitate passenger movement, Chandigarh Administration is also strengthening its public transport system, by increasing the number & frequency of buses of the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) and also enhancing their routes.

In view of this recent anti-pollution campaign of the State Transport Authority, Chandigarh Administration hereby invites citizens of Chandigarh to tell us what is their opinion about the banning of illegal and pollution causing diesel auto-rickshaws in Chandigarh. Further, suggestions/ideas are invited from the residents to help us ensure that a clean and pollution free air is provided in the City Beautiful.

why e-rickshaw's are not being promoted in chandigarh ?while other cities are doing it & running it successfully.it will help in alternate mode of transport & administration can run it in sector 17(battery operated vehicle) & make sector 17 vehicle free.it will help in curbing pollution.

public transport system should be strong & work till late so public shall use it.apart from that it should be cheaper so public can use it.buses must be fitted with wi-fi/t.v.so public must feel advantages of travelling in public transport.lesser charges with more usage will bring the revenue.profitability should not be the main reason.

it's a good step by administration to ban diesel auto's.to maintain environment & keep it green administration should ensure that it's own staff shall use public transport(if there's no field job) & administration must purchase public transport for it's own staff & encourage them to use it.

The argument that this step will hurt diesel auto owners and drivers livelihood is completely false! Autos are owned by middle class people who rent them to drivers. Auto owners are not poor people. Auto owners are business people. Auto drivers are auto drivers and if they are not allowed to drive diesel autos, they will drive CNG autos that will replace diesel autos.
