The State Transport Authority (STA), U.T., Chandigarh has initiated a citywide enforcement campaign against the illegal and pollution causing vehicles, especially diesel auto-rickshaws that had been plying in the city. This drive had been initiated in the entire city to take a firm step towards creating a pollution free environment in the city, keeping in mind the larger public health concerns of the residents.

As per the latest data submitted by the Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee (CPCC), there has been a significant decline in the various pollutants including SPM, RSPM, SO2, and NOx in various places of Chandigarh being monitored by CPCC over the past two weeks, ever since the drive was started by the State Transport Authority.

Meanwhile, to facilitate passenger movement, Chandigarh Administration is also strengthening its public transport system, by increasing the number & frequency of buses of the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) and also enhancing their routes.

In view of this recent anti-pollution campaign of the State Transport Authority, Chandigarh Administration hereby invites citizens of Chandigarh to tell us what is their opinion about the banning of illegal and pollution causing diesel auto-rickshaws in Chandigarh. Further, suggestions/ideas are invited from the residents to help us ensure that a clean and pollution free air is provided in the City Beautiful.

Administration should not bow down to Diesel auto unions protest and encourage CNG auto unions to protest against diesel auto unions. CNG auto owners & drivers should be encouraged because they are providing low cost transport service without hurting the health of fellow walking and cycling commuters. Rich people in their cars keep their windows shut and they are not hurt by black sooty smoke. It is the poor people who face health problems due to this diesel auto pollution.

This is a welcome step that should have been taken long ago. I used to be a regular cyclist and generally cycled or walked to my destination. However, now these autos create so much black sooty smoke that cycling is not healthy and it is worse than smoking a cigarette. Many auto drivers put discarded motor oil or other oils from car workshops as fuel and this leads to sooty smoke. This smoke is causing health problems to role model citizens who commute on cycle.

Dear Sir, if we could see the proportion of the diesel run autos with other vehicles it was very high, and they become reason of fatal accidents. where ever they wanted to pick passenger they started/stopped on the roads causing accidents. Pollution graph is also being decreased by their stoppage which shows a very good decision which should not be influenced for a political benefit. highly appreciable for the authorities once again , Keep it up

A good decision by chandigarh administration. Bt at the same time, people should be stopped burning plastic and other garbage [mainly by 90% sweepers]. Heavy penalty should be imposed on those who are degrading environment.

Using cycles provided by govt or ppp It's easier way. A person can max travel not more than 10-15 kms While taking a bi-cycle using facial recognition can mark him ( like the one in tirupathi temple A.P ) a serial Num to that particular cycle, can go anywhere within the radius, This may useful in people to reach destiny easily and quickly and can reduce per capita carbon emission, individual must use mass transport rather than using individual vehicle

Dear Sir, I am P A Cariappa, My advice is that to use " Cycle's", so that 80%, of the problem , will be solved, and rest 20%, check whether, the vehicle owner is following " Emission Test " , or not. " Cycling" , is very good for health, and also it improves confidence. Regards. P A cariappa.
