The State Transport Authority (STA), U.T., Chandigarh has initiated a citywide enforcement campaign against the illegal and pollution causing vehicles, especially diesel auto-rickshaws that had been plying in the city. This drive had been initiated in the entire city to take a firm step towards creating a pollution free environment in the city, keeping in mind the larger public health concerns of the residents.

As per the latest data submitted by the Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee (CPCC), there has been a significant decline in the various pollutants including SPM, RSPM, SO2, and NOx in various places of Chandigarh being monitored by CPCC over the past two weeks, ever since the drive was started by the State Transport Authority.

Meanwhile, to facilitate passenger movement, Chandigarh Administration is also strengthening its public transport system, by increasing the number & frequency of buses of the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) and also enhancing their routes.

In view of this recent anti-pollution campaign of the State Transport Authority, Chandigarh Administration hereby invites citizens of Chandigarh to tell us what is their opinion about the banning of illegal and pollution causing diesel auto-rickshaws in Chandigarh. Further, suggestions/ideas are invited from the residents to help us ensure that a clean and pollution free air is provided in the City Beautiful.

Good morning Sir/Ma'am , Citizens can be motivated to buy electric vehicles (few companies have already launched electric cars in India) or buy more fuel efficient vehicles and discard their old high fuel consuming vehicles and in return the government can promise them equivalent benefits like certain amount of free energy etc. This idea works like carbon credit or offsetting . The difference is that here the deal will strike between citizens and government .

Some other methodsnot related to vehicles 1. stop usages of Air conditioners in ATM. Is it required any way for man or machine. Electrical energy saved is direct reduction in air pollution as most of the power is generated by thermal method.

1. Ban on usages of cars in academic institute. IIT kharagpur has this system. 2.Each organisation like TCS, Municipality corporation arrange possibe pooling during the run to office and back. Method of issue of limited number of passes for vehicles permitted to ply. This check can only be done by the concerned organisation. 3.Wrong concept that electric vehicles are non polluting, rather it pollutes more, electrical energy is produced from thermal and again downgraded to mechanical energy
