Awards for Clean Public Health Facilities
The Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan focuses on promoting cleanliness in public spaces, including public health facilities. The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, is launching an Award Scheme as a national initiative in order to promote cleanliness in public health facilities for improved patient safety and health outcomes. This would contribute to Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
The Objectives of award scheme to be launched as a national initiative are as under:
• To promote cleanliness, hygiene and Infection Control Practices in public Health Care Facilities.
• To incentivize and recognize such public healthcare facilities that show exemplary performance in adhering to standard protocols of cleanliness and infection control.
• To inculcate a culture of ongoing assessment and peer review of performance related to hygiene, cleanliness and sanitation.
• To create and share sustainable practices related to improved cleanliness in public health facilities linked to positive health outcomes.
What: MoHFW plans to launch for Awards for Clean Public Health Facilities.
Target: District Hospital, Sub-District Hospital/ Community Health Centre and Primary Health Centre
When: 2nd October 2015 (Tentative date)
Where: To be launched throughout the country in all States.
The scheme of the proposed Awards:
• The awards would be distributed based on the performance of the facility on the following parameters:
(i) Sanitation and hygiene
(ii) Infection control.
(iii) Hospital Upkeep
(iv) Waste Management
(v) Community Participation
• Awards to be given to:
1. Best two District Hospitals in each state (Best District hospital in small states with fewer than 10 District Hospitals)
2. Best three Community Health Centres/Sub District Hospitals (limited to Two in states with fewer than 20 CHCs & SDHs).
3. One Primary Health Centre in every district
• At National Level- Award Winning District Hospitals from each state/UT will be awarded at the national award ceremony.
• At State Level- Award Winning Sub-District Hospitals/Community Health Centres and Primary Health Centre will be awarded at the state award ceremony.
• Assessment would be done sequentially through a three tier system - Internal assessment followed by Peer assessment and then external assessment.
• Each award winning facility will receive a cash award with a citation
This task seeks inputs to suggest a name for the Awards for Clean Public Health Facilities to be launched as a national Initiative.
The last date of submission is 10th May, 2015.
The top three winning entry will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/- each and top selected entry would receive an additional cash prize of Rs. 10,000/-
