Today, electronic waste poses a significant challenge for society. With the introduction of innovative features and up gradation, people are changing their devices by discarding the old ones, thereby contributing to the generation of electronic waste significantly. An effective collection and disposal system, as well as recycling of end-of-life electronic devices in a responsible manner, is important for protecting the health and environment. Green electronics, therefore, refers to the following three components that contribute to a sustainable future-
1. Design of green products for eco-efficiency or sustainable product design, is a proactive approach to addressing environmental considerations in the earliest stages of the product development process in order to minimize negative environmental impacts throughout the product’s life cycle. Green product design can encompass material selection, resource use, production requirements and planning for the final disposition (recycling, reuse, or disposal) of a product. Green products may be designed to be more easily upgraded, disassembled, recycled, and reused than their conventional counterparts as well as to use fewer materials and to break down into replaceable modular parts.
2. Energy Efficiency for eliminating energy waste. Improving energy efficiency is the cheapest – and often the most immediate – way to reduce our carbon footprint and provide a wide range of products to consumers to choose from. There are enormous opportunities for efficiency improvements in every sector of the economy, whether it is buildings, transportation, industry, or energy generation.
3. Modular concept of the product lifecycle with respect to refurbishment and reuse.
Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) hereby invites entries from citizens on the theme Green Products for Sustainable Future in the form of a write-up, describing and explaining their innovative solutions of different kinds of green products that lead to a sustainable future.
