In order to bring together the creative diversity of this country, and generate a set of exquisite products, by using Indian handloom Products, a creative crowd-sourcing competition is being launched through the MyGov platform.
In this competition, the Indian citizens/designers/entrepreneurs of this country are requested to submit their entries, based on which these interesting products can be manufactured and available for sale.
To generate awareness about the importance of the handloom industry and its contribution to the socio-economic development of the country, 7th August is celebrated every year as “National Handloom Day”.
August 7 was chosen as the National Handloom Day to commemorate the Swadeshi Movement which was launched on this day in 1905 in the Calcutta Town hall. The first National Handloom Day was inaugurated on 7th August 2015 by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi at the Centenary Hall of Madras University in Chennai.
Ministry of Textiles in collaborations with MyGov is organizing a contest Design a Handloom Souvenir. For the same Indian citizens are requested to share their ideas of souvenirs designed/created by them using Indian Handlooms in the form of photograph(s) to promote and support the Handloom Sector
