Handloom products constitute an integral part of the India’s heritage and culture. Showcasing various vibrant aspects of the cultural heritage of India, the handloom sector provides employment, directly and indirectly to over 43 lakh handloom weavers, belonging to socially and economically weaker sections of the society particularly in the rural areas.

Varanasi has a rich cultural heritage and Banaras silk sarees and crafts are an integral part of the Indian landscape. Varanasi handloom makes India proud of its heritage. The handloom and handicraft products of Varanasi have got wide recognition all over the country and abroad for their highly artistic design, colour combination, superior craftsmanship and long durability.

Keeping in view the vision of making the handloom and handicraft industry of Varanasi and neighbouring areas, market oriented and for generating productive employment, the Government of India is setting up of a Trade Facilitation Centre and a Crafts Museum to develop and promote the handlooms, handicrafts and silk products of Varanasi and to provide necessary help to weavers, artisans and entrepreneurs of Varanasi for boosting their marketing activities in domestic as well as international markets and carry forward the rich tradition of handlooms at Varanasi.Hon’ble Prime Minister of India laid foundation stone of Trade Facilitation Centre and a Crafts Museum on 7th November 2014 at BadaLalpur, Varanasi.

Your valuable views and opinion is sought on the concept and facilities/services to be provided in the Trade Facilitation Centre and the Crafts Museum at Varanasi.

On 26-4-15 in his speech Maan Ki baat Respected PM Mr Narendra Damodardas Modi emphasized on MAYLA MATHE PE DHONA (carrying dirt on head). The phrase was headline in each and every NEWS of the day. Is He really concern about this and made provisions of reservation in LOK SABHA, RAJYA SABHA, STATE VIDHAN SABHA, MILITARY etc etc etc ...... Such reservations are in place in other aspects of life. Respected PM Mr NARENDRA DAMODARDAS MODI SIR do you have explanation or just a speech.

Sir we have to spread awareness about the qualities of varanasi silk among international customers. We have to make new and modern dresses with Varanasi Silk. The trade facilitation centre shall conduct exhibition cum sale with rebate in the peak tourist season like Khadi in Kerala conducts such sales during Onam season.Scope of online sale can be explored because today online selling platforms are gaining ground.

For worshiping the god people will by fabric.Directly Handicraft center alone should allowed to sell fabric.so that weavers will be benefited or else middle men only will earn. Varanasi must have only govt.,approved handicraft co-operative society only should sell handloom and craft items.Branches may be tie up with ITDC ,star hotels,Railways.

Sir this is a good practical solution, I suggest to make it forward looking --it should be handed over to an empowered team on pubic+private participants i.e. involving all stake holders.

I see a kind of ethnic Mall in Jayapur, Varanasi. This hall may dedicated floors for-- carpets, sarees, handloom products and eateries for which Varanasi is known for. There may also be Tourist Information Centre here for domestic and foreign tourists. Facility for air and Train ticket bookings will bring more footfalls.

The entire stretch between Varanasi and Bhadohi may be lined up with Langra mango trees, so unique to Varanasi. This will bring more business opportunities for farmers. It will also help in Green India mission (Greenery with Revenue) besides supporting Swachch Bharat Abhiyan, by fighting the menace of pollution.

If Bhadohi is to be developed as handloom manufacturers' hub then electricity supply to this town will have to be improved. One option is to encourage solar power plants. We get so much of sunlight and the summer months in northern India are quite long. Hence there is urgent need to have solar power plants. For this foreign power companies may be asked to establish local plants. This will not only give jobs to local people but also bring upgraded and economical solar technology for India.

If handloom/ handicraft trade is to be developed in Varanasi then Bhadihi will have to be developed as satellite manufacturing hub. Handloom sector is non-polluting sector and more of powerlooms can be encouraged in this town. This will develop more jobs and business opportunities for people, particularly from the minority community.
