Reserved tickets can be booked at Computerised Passenger Reservation System centres operated by Indian Railways and also online through website www.irctc.co.in. Unreserved tickets can be purchased from Computerised Unreserved Ticketing System counters and also Automatic Ticket Vending Machines which have been installed at major stations.

Suggest solutions for efficient ticketing system.

A lot has improved but there are still major concerns in railway ticketing. If we are to book tickets for older folks for lower birth only it is highly impossible to have it booked over internet. The amount is collected in advance from your debit card before it is even confirmed that the lower births are not available when the selection criteria at the bottom is checked. This system of collecting money in advance before issuing tickets is not practical and is a problem for customers.

Many of authorised and unauthorised ticket agents manipulates tatkal reservation system including some of railway employees also,who are using some software and issue tatkal tickets using PC. Why railway is not using technology to stop this and to punish them.

Ultimate solution is competition. Remember inefficiencies in railway ticketing, excess staffing and waste are paid for by you. Every citizen pays taxes; even a labourer as he lights a stove using a matchstick (excise,sales tax). Why do we let irresponsible VIPs, Railway unions misuse our hard earned money for their benefit? open up railways and watch service improve, budget carriers will emerge. Opening up airlines caused fares to fall,not rise. Ditto for Telecom. Why not for railways?

make it compulsory for every passenger to mansion his/her mobile no.in the ticket booking form and immediately after bookings the customer should get a image or the ticket details in his phone which will reduse the usage of paper. the 3moths pre booking is not at all a good move by railways else its headache on the passengers.the railways should identify the heavy traffic routes...so that more trains can be arragend to tackle the heavy traffic in the trains.

तत्काल टिकट बुकिंग में दलालों का एकछत्र राज्य हो गया है | सामान्य ब्यक्ति अपने irctc अकाउंट से तत्काल कोटे में टिकट पा ही नही सकता | वहीँ यदि हम किसी दलाल को प्रति टिकेट १५०० से २००० रूपये ज्यादा दे तो वह बड़ी आसानी से टिकट दे देता है, वो भी irctc के अकाउंट से ही | उसी समय जब हम टिकट बुकिंग कर रहे होते हैं तो कई तरह के एरर दिखता है irctc के वेबसाइट पे | यही समस्या उधना से बनारस जाने वाली श्रमिक एक्स्रेस में भी हुयी |

1. We see long queue for Platform Ticket @ Metro (Delhi/Mumbai/Kolkata) Railway Station, a wastage of precious time/manhours. 2. Platform Tickets shud be dispensed thru Vending Machines. 2. It can be issued Online with SMS wherein Person login, gives time of entry in Railway Stn. & SMS confirms its issuance. 3. It can be issued Online just like train ticket with probable time of Entry at Station.. Will save Precious time & inconvenience of Public.

These are the everyday problems, which requires immediate solution. Then there are accidents of all types, maintenance and infrastructure, which requires planned solution. I have heard u saying Railway has no money. Money would not solve these problems, technology would and for that, you need to encourage, and reward technology, rather than rewarding inefficiency by giving bonus & awarding contracts. In fact, railway is the first place, where i learned to bribe, it was so easy to bribe them.

Probably, no where in the world, there would be such a great Demand-Supply mismatch as is in INDIAN railway. However, inside the train TTE boss would arrange it for you (particularly on Howrah-Delhi section). Due to rape culture in railway (when VIP/Premium trains overtakes so called superslow trains at lonely stations mercilessly) and inefficiency of railway, on this section, the trains are more than 5-8 hours late as a rule. And finally animal like experience in the general coach.

We are getting WL tkts even after booking the ticket at the 2nd minute of the ticket opening date. Even worse tkt is not getting RAC after 60 days Its difficult to add more coaches or more trains, But cant we make special Double Decker trains during festival/ holiday seasons. These trains can also be rotated as per the change in peak season from state to state. Eg: Special Double Decker trains instead of normal trains during Navratri for Guj. and same trains can be used during Onam for Kerala.
