As part of the Ministry of Urban Development’s Smart City Challenge, Udaipur Municipal Corporation has recently completed the round one of the citizen’s consultation. Based on the outcome of round one, Corporation is now preparing to undertake several activities for citizen’s engagement in round two. As part of round two, Udaipur Municipal Corporation now invites suggestions/ feedbacks on one of the priority area i.e. ‘intelligent government services’ required by Udaipur city to be smart. All services are provided through online and offline platforms. Citizens and officials can access information on accounting and monitor status of projects and programs through data available on online system. Robust data infrastructure system shares information and enhances internal governmental coordination.

Please give your suggestions that what all services should be there?

Uninterrupted electricity supply : Intelligent fault monitoring or fault tolerant systems be introduced to supply unhindered electricity to the city. Smart IT based management and transmission systems should be introduced at a rapid pace to reduce power losses and optimum access to electricity.

Water quality and daily supply : Water supply lines/pipes should be on the sides / footpath so that in case of any repair work, the main roads are saved from being dug. Filter plants be set up so that water is drinkable even from the main lines. Placing water fountains on footpaths so that clean drinking water is available.Water pumping and treatment stations be technologically upgraded to cater to the needs of a rapidly growing city population.

Buildings under construction/repairs : Scaffolding be made compulsory for repair of buildings or new construction so that roads and pedestrian facility remains free of dust and debris. All kinds of building material be compulsarily stored inside the premises and not on the footpath or road, as is the current practice.

Building plans / line : Strict adherence to building laws. Building line in walled city, as well as, in other areas, should be made uniform and building height should also be uniform. This will help create an aesthetic view of the city.

Building permissions : Construction permission should be IT based only, to assist the house building permission committee, in taking quick and impartial decisions. Applications should not be pending for a month long period for the committee to meet. Giving permission should be a daily continuous process via computer software. This will give transparency to the decisions and completely reduce public harassment.
