Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation has been selected through a competitive process for SMART City Mission initiative of Government of India. In the next phase, Coimbatore city has to compete with 98 other cities from across the country to make it into the Top 20 cities which will be taken up for the first round of funding, for the financial year 2015-16.

Citizens and stakeholders of Coimbatore are requested to post their views and suggestions on how to make Coimbatore a Smart one. The citizens may organize their thoughts on the following topics

1. What should be the Vision of the Coimbatore
2. Strengths, areas of improvement & solutions across the following sectors

a. City Spatial Structure, Transportation and Green Spaces
b. Energy, Water, Waste Water and Environment
c. Housing, Health, Education, Security, Law and Order
d. Citizen Engagement, Smart Solutions and IT-led service delivery

Area-based development will transform existing areas (retrofit and redevelop), including slums, into better planned ones, thereby improving liveability of the whole City.

The core infrastructure to coimbatore City would include: 1.adequate water supply, 2.assured electricity supply, 3.sanitation, including solid waste management, 4.efficient urban mobility and public transport, 5.affordable housing, especially for the poor, 6.robust IT connectivity and digitalization, 7.good governance, especially e-Governance and citizen participation, 8.sustainable environment,

Engage effectively with local people in local governance and decision by use of open innovation processes and e-participation, improving the collective intelligence of the city’s institutions through E-Governance, with emphasis placed on citizen participation and co-design. Learn, adapt and innovate and thereby respond more effectively and promptly to changing circumstances by improving the intelligence of the city.

-It has been suggested that a smart city (also community, Business cluster, urban agglomeration or region) use information technologies to: -Make more efficient use of physical infrastructure (roads, built environment and other physical assets) through artificial intelligence and data analytics to support a strong and healthy economic, social, cultural development.

I was thinking to put forward at least a list of Flyovers required in the next 5 years, besides the ring road.Formation of Industrial estates, CMDA etc. Metro request has already been acknowledged in DMK 's manifesto in the last elections itself.

Maintain lakes with proper sewage distillation plants to stop inducting sewage water directed to the lake. (Its long time planning state)
