Allahabad, also known as Prayag, is one of the 13 Smart Cities identified in UP out of 100 in India. It is the administrative headquarters of the Allahabad District. It is one of the largest commercial centers in Uttar Pradesh, having the second-highest per capita income and the third-greatest GDP in the state.

As per 2011 census, Allahabad has a population of 1.17 million (including OG), spread across an area of about 70sqkm. As per the City Development Plan (2015), it is estimated that the city’s population will cross 2 million by the year 2031.Allahabad is one of the major pilgrim/ tourist destinations of the country, resulting in a large floating population (over 100 million pilgrims – MahaKumbhMela 2013).

Allahabad Municipal Corporation (AMC)has plans for the complete revival of the system in city and make the M and E governance available for common public to ensure good governance. As a part of this exercise, AMC intends to have involvement of public in the form of suggestions to make the city smart and improve the living standards.

Allahabad has to formulate its own unique PAN City Smart Solution (A Smart Solution that could be applied City wide) and prepare the Smart City Plan in consultation with the citizens and other stakeholders.

The Ideal Pan-City Solutions are given below:

1 Conservation
a. Conservation of Lakes, Parks, Playgrounds
b. Restoration and conservation of heritage and rivers
c. Purification of water bodies

2 Electricity
a. LED street lighting
b. Less power cuts and outages
c. Establishment of Smart Grid

3 Environment and Sustainability
a. Recycling of Waste
b. Clean roads and streets
c. Zero discharge of pollution into river

4 Governance
a. Citizen friendly Smart Governance- m-Governance
b. Single window system (e-governance)

5 Housing
a. Housing for poor
b. Toilets (Individual and Public)

6 Safety and Security
a. Improve disaster management/ response
b. Greater road safety measures
c. Safety for women, children & senior citizens
d. Improved lighting at public places
e. Public health & hygiene

7 Solid Waste Management
a. Dustbins at public places
b. Regular & timely collection at door step
c. No dumping of garbage at landfill
d. Scientific disposal of solid waste

8 Transport and Mobility
a. Better parking facilities
b. Better Public transport facilities
c. Encroachment free pathways and widening of roads
d. Integrated mass transport, mobility and connectivity

9 Tourism
a. Better tourist amenities and facilities (esp. during KumbhMela)
b. Riverfront development activities

10 Water Supply and Sewage
a. Control on unauthorized connections
b. Clean river/ water bodies
c. 24 X 7 water
d. Equitable water distribution

11 Other Infrastructure
a. Parks, Entertainment and Leisure Destinations
b. Skill Development Centers
c. Slum Rehabilitation / Upgradation / Improvement
d. Sports and games
e. Wi-Fi and internet connectivity

स्मार्ट शहर के चयन प्रक्रिया में इस तथ्य को कैसे अनदेखा कर दिया गया। कि इसकी सबसे ज्यादा जरुरत उन छेत्रों को थी,जहाँ जनसंख्या अधिक थी।जहाँ विकास कम था जहाँ रोजगार के लिए पलायन अधिक था। जैसे पूर्वांचल,बिहार आदि। ना कि कर्नाटक।स्मार्ट सहर के चयन में जाने कैसे नियम आ गए कि,प्रधानमन्त्री जी के चुनाव पूर्व किये गए वादे के के इस बात का ध्यान नहीं रखा गया कि स्मार्ट शहर का निर्माण कर युवको के पलायन को रोकना है। तब तो और जब कि अत्याधिक जनसँख्या वाले छेत्र सबसे बिकास में भी पीछे है। धन्यवाद।

It is a good project started by the indian govt. the smart city concept is more powerful think to build our nation i belong to sehore city in M.P. which is very close to Allahabad city and fortunated Allahabad is selected for the smart city and if it will build smart city than my city will allready devolop thanks to the govt.for the selection.

smart city if air , water, sound, earth pollution will remove and education quality improved. other things like house, road, hospital transportation are secondary. public educate to protect life city follow the norms personal responsibility. we told smart city but public should smart first

The garbage collection points should be increased and it should be in closed plastic container. The specially designed trucks are available which can pick the garbage from these containers. In spite of this there should be at least one dustbin at a distance of 100 meters throughout the city. The public who through the garbage on the roads should be punished heavily.
