The country is well endowed with many metallic and non-metallic mineral resources.  India is a leading player in respect of many non fuel minerals including, iron ore, bauxite, dolomite, lime stone and mica.  Mining sector (non-fuel) currently accounts for approx 0.5% of GDP.  For accelerated economic growth on sustainable basis, this sector has to grow at a much faster pace to secure   a higher percentage in the GDP.

Scientific, sustainable and transparent mining practices require well trained manpower.  Skill development not only enhances productivity and safety at work place, but more importantly, it prepares the manpower to adapt to the new state of art technologies. Currently this sector employs around 0.2 Million workforce which is estimated to grow to 0.3 Million in next 10 years.

The skill development should be undertaken by the private sector while safety, welfare and remuneration aspects would need to be over seen by the government. We need to ensure that the best international practices as well as technology are brought to our country so as to maximize efficiency and minimize wastage. The private sector has greater flexibility in doing that. Also even the regulatory aspect should seek to facilitate growth and industry.

A program for change/shift of profile should be developed whereby individuals can shift without losing their jobs and income to another industry or within the same industry. People are provided with all the support necessary to change especially in the private industry. As India will be shifting from services industry to manufacturing industry this change will be required and a strategy has to be put in place for this changeover. This change management program for workforce should be given

The skill development for future India is not going in a right direction. We in India creating only theoretical persons. We need more result oriented technocrats for future India. Our research are coming only on paper, not in real life. For that the educational system has to be changed, otherwise we will go like this only. The practical approach must be created from Higher secondary level, making products, which will create new ideas for the future generation.New educational policy to be framed.
