The e-Committee, Supreme Court of India envisages a judicial system that is more accessible, efficient, and equitable for every individual who engages with the justice delivery system. The right of access to justice, guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution encompasses the right to access live court proceedings.

To imbue greater transparency, inclusivity and foster access to justice, the e-Committee has undertaken the project of live streaming of court proceedings on priority. This will enable access to live court proceedings, including on matters of public interest to citizens, journalists, civil society, academicians, and law students on a real-time basis, which was not otherwise possible owing to geographical, logistical, or infrastructural issues.

The e-Committee, Supreme Court of India invites inputs, feedback, and suggestions on the Draft Model Rules for Live-Streaming and Recording of Court Proceedings.

The last date to receive Suggestions/Inputs is 30th June 2021.

Entry into the Central Universities should be based on merit judged on the basis of entrance test. It is indeed a good news to know that a Central University is coming up at Ladakh. The University should have all disciplines specially related to ecosystem services with specialization level in different aspects of nature starting from water to geology.

Live streaming would have some challenges as well.
One of the biggest concern should be to maintain the dignity of parties involved in court cases.
It shall not become washing dirty linen in public by one or both parties.
It shall not become a matter of harassment and extortion especially in dowry or divorce cases. It may happen in cases of sexual harassment also.
Consent of both parties shall be obtained and even one party do not give consent, live streaming shall not take place.

Some general thoughts
1. Completing cases fast. So it will not pending for long time.
2. Segregating cases severity based and splitting the work. It will help to complete the cases within particular time. So that parties will be benefitted.
3. Possible places introducing computer help to quicken the process.
4. Employeeing contract or permanent basis increasing employees - need to validate and take the point.

All court proceedings should be recorded in vdo so that the witnesses does not get hostile in future. The recording should be made mandatory for all courts and not only supreme court.
