India’s Handloom sector is a symbol of our glorious cultural heritage and is an important source of livelihood in the country.

The first National Handloom Day was held on 7th August 2015 by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. On this day, the handloom weaving community is honoured and their contribution to the socio-economic development of the country is highlighted, and the resolve to protect our handloom heritage and to empower the handloom weavers and workers with greater opportunities is reaffirmed.

Let us, together, ensure the sustainable development of the handloom sector by supporting our handloom weavers and workers for their exquisite craftsmanship.

As we approach National Handloom Day, we invite you to come forward & support the Handloom weavers/artists by sharing your photos or videos wearing or using Handloom products. The best pictures and videos will get featured at MyGov – the world’s biggest citizen engagement platform.

Go ahead, show your support to our glorious heritage!

He hoped the charkha would assist the people of India achieve self-sufficiency and independence, and therefore used the charkha as a symbol of the Indian independence movement and included it on earlier versions of the Flag of India. This photo was taken at Dahod, Panch mahal, Gujarat, where the tribal women get knowledge and empowerment in Sahaj Foundation. Sahaj is working with tribal women artisans of eastern Gujarat and provide home based livelihood opportunities to address the issue of annual migration. Although it has been operational since 1994, it was formally registered as an NGO under the Bombay Trust Act in 2001.

the textile industry including small scale and home made traditional weaving should have a separate minister & promotion of it's products similar to Nandini milk in Karnataka. quality should be good & long lasting. but private companies bribe & spoil the quality in between similar to BSNL where local engineers are bribed to keep signal strength low, antenna turned away from residential side. it's like cheating on govt by taking salary but work& support private company for his favour.AI will help
