In the latest episode of Mann Ki Baat on 27th September 2020, Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi spoke about the art of storytelling. He mentioned that the history of stories is as ancient as the human civilization itself. ‘Where there is a soul, there is a story’.

As we are going to celebrate 75 years of independence, Prime Minister urged storytellers across the Nation to share stories of many inspiring events during the entire period of our enslavement. Especially, from 1857 to 1947, stories around every major or minor incident during this period can be introduced to our new generation.

“May this art of storytelling become stronger in the country, become more popularized and easier to imbibe - this is something we must all strive for”: PM Narendra Modi

Do you know of any inspiring event during the 1857-1947 freedom struggle that isn’t so well known? Maybe a long-forgotten hero who did not get as much prominence as he/she deserved? Maybe an incident which played a minor but important role in our struggle? A story you might have heard from a family elder, many years ago?

Tell us, we will feature your story for all Indians!

Share your story in the form of a video, audio clip, picture or essay.

Mangal Pandey (19 July 1827 – 8 April 1857) was an Indian soldier who played a key part in the events immediately preceding the outbreak of the Indian rebellion of 1857. He was a sepoy (infantryman) in the 34th Bengal Native Infantry (BNI) regiment of the British East India Company. In 1984, the Indian government issued a postage stamp to remember him. His life and actions have also been portrayed in several cinematic productions.

As of Today we are a independent country and have a rule of our own but even today we are being ruled by the COVID-19 pandemic which has over 71 lakh citizens taken as hostages and 62 lakh citizens have been freed from it but 1 lakh citizens have lost their life. Hence the whole country is struggling for freedom from COVID-19. Hence the Superpower which will help us defeat the invisible enemy is going to hopefully come in the first quarter of 2021. Thank you.

ndia’s struggle for independence was actively shaped, influenced and nurtured by Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Reverentially worshipped as Mahatma and respectfully adored as ‘Father of the Nation’ from 1920 to 1947 for a period of nearly three decades. During this momentous period of our history, Gandhi was undoubtedly the undisputed leader of millions of freedom loving Indians. He strode like an unrivalled colossus transforming the freedom movement to a broad-based mass movement by his policy

The sword of Bahadur Shah Zafar: The emperor had agreed to lead the 1857 Revolt – but he was captured, his weapons confiscated, his sons killed and he was banished to Burma by the British. (Photos: Raj K Raj; Location: Swatantrata Sangram Sanghralaya, Red Fort, Delhi The British considered the Revolt a “Muslim conspiracy”. But, writes William Dalrymple in The Last Mughal, “The Mughal court was still regarded across northern India not as some sort of foreign Muslim imposition – as some,
