Replace plastic bags with jute bags/cloth bags
You know you cannot avoid grocery shopping every other week. Keep a cloth bag or jute bag with you for these chores instead of using plastic bags which you will end up throwing in the dustbin anyway.
Avoid using microbeads
Microbeads/microplastics are tiny chunks of plastic scrubbers present in the products like scrubs, toothpaste, body washes. Due to their tiny size, these beads slip through water treatment plants. Many marine animals confuse them for food and consume them. These beads have affected marine wildlife adversely.
Plastics affect all ecosystems, but they account for at least 85 per cent of total marine waste. As a result of land-based pollution, fisheries and other activities, currently 11 million metric tonnes of plastics go into our ocean annually.
Spread Awareness:
Education and awareness are key to combating plastic pollution. Share information about the harmful effects of plastic on the environment with your family, friends, and colleagues. Utilize social media platforms, community events, or educational workshops to raise awareness about plastic pollution and inspire others to take action.
Support Plastic-Free Initiatives:
Engage with and support organizations and initiatives that promote a plastic-free lifestyle. Participate in local clean-up drives, beach or river clean-ups, or community initiatives aimed at reducing plastic pollution. By joining forces with like-minded individuals, we can amplify our impact and work towards a cleaner environment together.
Reduce Food Packaging Waste:
Plastic packaging from food items contributes significantly to plastic pollution. To minimize this, buy fresh produce from local markets or bulk stores that offer unpackaged alternatives. Choose loose fruits and vegetables instead of pre-packaged ones. Cooking meals from scratch also reduces reliance on pre-packaged convenience foods, thereby reducing plastic waste.
Dispose of waste responsibly by segregating recyclables from non-recyclables. Familiarize yourself with your local recycling guidelines and ensure that plastics are correctly sorted and placed in recycling bins. Encourage others to do the same and educate your community about the importance of proper waste management.
Opt for Eco-friendly Packaging:
Support businesses that prioritize eco-friendly packaging by choosing products with minimal or no plastic packaging. Look for brands that use biodegradable or compostable materials for packaging their products.
Plastic is a very big challenge for environment.
some suggestion has been given for it.
1 Always use cloth bags in place of plastic bag for shopping.
2 Eco friendly packaged should be promoted for less plastic used.
3 Recycle plant should be established in all cities and market area.
4 An awareness campaign has been started for not to use plastic item.
5 Plastic free home campaign should be started for promote more people.
Say No to Plastic Straws and Cutlery:
Plastic straws and cutlery are among the major culprits of plastic pollution. Refusing plastic straws when ordering drinks and opting for reusable or biodegradable alternatives can greatly reduce plastic waste. Similarly, carry reusable cutlery or use bamboo or metal utensils when dining out or ordering takeout.
