The first need of research and innovation is curiosity. To increase curiosity you should give attention on what we are reading. Students pay attention English more than other things. With English we can not invent any thing. We should learn from Japanese, French, German Scientist who still invent things in their language.

Fully agree on inter-disciplinary research. Unless promoted, there would be no JC Bose born in India in near future. ...If you look at the length and breadth of work Sir Bose has done though his papers and books, we understand his multidisciplinary expertise in the areas electronics, maths, physics, biology, botany, metaphysics, electrical engineering, thermodynamics, heat transfer, physiology, chemistry and what not.

.....to provide funding for research for their requirements. For ex. pharma companies can outsource their R&D from top institutes and in turn they should fund these R&D activities.

Higher education such as masters or doctoral courses are for promoting research. First of all these courses should be allowed to open only in competent institutes. Fake institutes must not be granted to run these courses. There is need for more scholarship for higher education students irrespective of their course. Government should provide more funds to institutes to upgrade their infrastructure. Recruitment of faculty must be done in a transparent manner.Industry should be taken on board.....

As researcer at an apex Institute it is disheartening to see the disorganized support structure for administrative & other nonresearch related issues faced by students & professors. There is no codex so at times even people in charge dont know how somethings are to be done. On the other hand somethings are so organized that there is no flexibility & minor issues take months to get resolved. I shudder when I think of the situation at lower institutions. This is a complex issue & needs resolution.

Indian diaspora who are doing their PhDs and are profesors at topmost colleges worldwide should be promoted to talk to our professors and guide them with the curriculum and latest r&d thats happening. Some of the interested ones should be made mentors to undergraduate and postgraduate students where they each adopt two students and guide them with respect to career and research.
