Sir,I travel regularly between Gurgaon and Delhi on NH-8. It is quite paining & disappointing to see at least one Ambulance got stuck in the heavy traffic. Why the Government is not thinking of a dedicated line on NHs for passing Ambulances and VIP movements. If not everywhere, at least where regular traffic Jams are happening. In the past we could successfully implement traffic for VIP movements and followed by the public during Commonwealth Games in 2010. So this is not an IMPOSSIBLE TASK

Smart city implementation should be speedened up to December instead of April 2016 . I hope Mangalore gets the Smart city tag in the first round itself . There are reasons for this . It is the fastest growing nin metro city in south India . It is the petrochemical capital of India . It has good harbour infrastructure and above all it generates a lot of civil engineer graduates along with Udupi city every year . There is a need for top class construction and strict rules in construction industry.

Smart city needs smart people also... only infrastructure cant make a smart city. Our people also need to understand how a city can be kept smart. Main issue is the traffic sense, cleanliness sense, behaviour. There should be some responsibility given to the police and management of city to teach people about traffic, cleanliness, behaviour.

The Smart City Proposal to be submitted by NDMC should consider i) proposal for development of smart citizens, ii) smart plantation and environment protection measures (e.g. ZERO-WASTE concept including involvement of manufacturers of consumable in the process of recycling, reuse & reduce), iii) smart footpath / walk-ways / Cycle-track (with censors to prevent illegal parking), iv) smart street washing followed by sweeping (no dry-brooming of streets to stop air-pollution in morning hours) etc.

Create peripheral highways. Create toll to enter and exit the city. Build pedestrian pathways so more people get to walk than what is currently even possible. Ensure no potholes, Ban entry of trucks with dry mud/sand or badarpur. Enforce lane driving and ban rickshaws and autos on main roads where they choke traffic. Make all markets one way. Create car parking using public private parnership in residential areas. Once operational, auction such parking spots and create walking paths around colonies.
