Here are some suggestions in order to promote our culture abroad : 1. Conveying / Explaining the scientific facts/evidences/reasons related to our festivals/traditions - WHY we do the things we do(spirituality as well as environmental awareness), WHY we cook certain dishes (health), etc..

I agree with Vankat that an NRI's permanent Transfer of Residence should not be levied a customs duty as they are simply coming to India for retirement with their lifelong used collection of arts, cars and their gifts given to them by their friends. It is mean to do that. heir pension savings, their life long pension and other investment will be a natural inflow of Capital investment which will trigger growth and help Current Account Balance. It seems the previous administration undermined and shy-ed away from publishing the NRI contributions towards India's Economic Development. For the present Hon.Prime Minister Modi it hardly took a few days to acknowledge publicly in India and NY. He is the first PM to acknowledge that Gandhi was once a Diaspora who won LIBERTY and LIFE for 1.2 billion people. He had the guts to offer a great many facilities to welcome them to India. Now we have no excuse but to go& B2I}, Raghu Shetty UK

It is unfair for GOI to charge customs duty for goods brought back by NRIs returning on Transfer of residence. They have already contributed by way of foreign exchange when they are employed abroad and are returning back to motherland. It is not fair to charge customs duty for TVs, fridge, etc which are no longer items of luxury. I can understand this charge if there is any drain on foreign exchange by GOI, like it happens when Indian tourists go abroad and return with these items.

Wear Indian dresses during festivals, parties, special invites, work if possible. Indian dresses are admired abroad for their colourful prints. Serve Indian food wherever invited for potluck parties. post Indian holiday pictures on social media and personal PC's at work.
