The role of institutions of higher education in societal development is becoming increasing significant. In recent years, higher education has isolated itself from the society and there is a need to re-establish and strengthen higher education’s close linkages with the society. How can Universities foster social responsibility and engage in community outreach programmes. Sharing some working examples would also be a useful input.

India should invite and utilize the invaluable experiences gained by the Indian faculties who are working outside India. Even if a faculty is on leave and continues his/her research and teaching in foreign universities their work should be acknowledged and such leave should not be considered as break of service if they want to return. Many experienced Indian faculties are reluctant to return to Indian universities only because of the thought that they have to work as junior staff.

After senior secondary school education instead of 3 year graduation programs we should introduce 1 year skill development programmes in various areas of interest. These skill development programmes should be practical based instead of theory classes. Internship and training programmes should be promoted by govt and companies as csr activities. 1yr diploma courses in our country are more productive than graduation degree. Vocational courses should be accepted for govt jobs too.

Reference is PUNSARI vilage of Gujrat. The point is that, if Himanshu Patel can bring about such a wonderful development with government grants only without any outside help from any NRI or Sansad/vidhayak, why other Gram Pradhans can not do even any part of that. It requires concern from all the states of India as well as the centre.

Education has become an Industry. The owners of Educational Institutes care a damned straw for the PURPOSE OF ANY EDUCATION.They are interested in making money and that too very very fast. My suggestions are as ubder: The cost of education especially quality education must be made affordable to a middle class family. Instead of qwiping out the private the Public Institutes Standard should be raised.Upto 8th standard all basics should be taught-Further studies based on multiple Aptitude TestsOn

TO stop the corruption in school in the form of not physically attendance of Teacher in school govt should take initiative by using present technology. govt should install BIOMETRIC ATTENDANCE SYSTEM in every school. I am 100% sure that this system cost worth for what govt. spending on school for the purpose he has opened the school. ONLY technology can change the corruption their is no other weapon
