The role of institutions of higher education in societal development is becoming increasing significant. In recent years, higher education has isolated itself from the society and there is a need to re-establish and strengthen higher education’s close linkages with the society. How can Universities foster social responsibility and engage in community outreach programmes. Sharing some working examples would also be a useful input.

A lot of money is being spent by the central Govt. in DPEP and SSA scheme to increase the quality of primary and secondary education, but in reality the quality has been reduced a lot.So by providing funds to state Govt does not give the good result. In my opinion there should a monitoring committee in district level to monitor the activity funded by central Govt.

A lot of time being wasted by observing holidays in primary and secondary school, So it should be reduced. In summer the classes can be taken from 6 AM to 9 AM so that there should be a continuity of learning by students. By closing the schools in summer vacations, only the rich people are getting the benefits of the holidays by teaching their children with qualified tuition teacher and poor children are being deprived of this facility.

I feel, in new education policy, credit based courses should be introduced in higher education. Till such time, students should be given option to pass in all subject bar one subject. Every person may be weak in a particular subject out of so many subjects taught in a particular semester of study. So, they may be allowed to continue the course, if they pass all subjects less one.

Just like Sansad Adarsha Gram Yojna where MPs are to select village and make it model, make it necessary for IITs and NITs student to dedicate their last semester to do something for most backward village of the state where the institution belongs. The same rule should be levied on AIIMS where the student of the institute must dedicate 1 semester for curing all the diseases of people belonging to most backward village. It can introduced as major project for them and complete sem must be for it.

Financing higher education: Higher education should be result oriented towards any industry activity or fundamental research, defense research, oceanography etc. Related industries to fund them with absorption in jobs in those institutes. Facilities to be provided to dedicated to fundamental research at govt cost with benefit to nation or industry. Bond should be signed by every participant. Amortised loan basis it can be fulfilled by various sources

Most of the times students are unaware of subjects they are studying and its importance in their professional life. Even the faculty or the management don't take much interest in focusing the importance of subjects. Everything is marks oriented in turn job oriented and students don't show much interest in knowing the things in depth. The education system should focus on mainly character building of the students and that focus should continue even in Higher education.

There are many higher education institutions are available now in india but most of all are doing business and not a improve the skills. Few institutions like IIM are more expensive for common people. So these common people are not able to improve their skills to 100%. May cheted by pvt institutions. So can school authority can identified skills students as per the streams and handover to state government for further development and state gov will use them for national developt. Fullutilization
