Nearly a decade and half has passed since the National Policy for Empowerment of Women, 2001 was formulated. Since then significant strides in global technology and information systems have placed the Indian economy on a trajectory of higher growth impacting the general populace and women, in particular in unique and different ways. The discourse on women’s empowerment has been gradually evolving over the last few decades, wherein paradigm shifts have occurred –from seeing women as mere recipients of welfare benefits to mainstreaming gender concerns and engaging them in the development process of the country. These changes have brought forth fresh opportunities and possibilities for women’s empowerment while at the same time presenting new and emerging challenges which along with persisting socio-economic problems continue to hinder gender equality and holistic empowerment of women.

The policy envisions a society in which, women attain their full potential and are able to participate as equal partners in all spheres of life. It also emphasises the role of an effective framework to enable the process of developing policies, programmes and practices which will ensure equal rights and opportunities for women.

The broad objective of the policy is to create a conducive socio-cultural, economic and political environment to enable women enjoy de jure and de facto fundamental rights and realize their full potential.

Priority Areas

This is Anti Society policy.it is the worst thought while drafting such policies.already, because of biased law families are getting destroyed with the speed as nothing else and again such one sided policies are getting draft.Every policy should be gender neutral .it should be for the development of all.. I do not condone the policy. If given a vote I chose to vote against it.

So many children are leading a fatherless life due to women centric laws. Has the government become so insensitive towards men , who also have a heart and feelings. Laws have made men seem like scapegoat for every wrong done by cheap women and yet the government still wants more laws to weaken men just for the sake of votes. Time is not far when men are going to simply stop voting for any party supporting women.

Dignity of woman comes with her self sufficiency. Equality comes with her meritocracy. But not by grabbing other's wealth & property in the name of woman's rights. Harassing in laws & husband with abuse & violence & then grabbing their wealth & property in the name of woman's rights is shame besides sin. Cruelty of husband is crime. Cruelty of wife/daughter-in-law entitles for huge compensation in the name of alimony. All equal b4 eyes of law. STOP making mockery of Indian Constitution.

Laws and policies that are open to be misused without consequence or regression is against the spirit of fairness and justice. The construction of the constitution was in the spirit of not condemning the innocent at what ever cost. This policy however is in direct violation as we already see many examples of blatant misuse of existing women empowering policies and laws. I do not condone the policy. If given a vote I chose to vote against it.

According to 498A of the IPC, "driving the women to suicide" is cruelty and a serious crime, it is 'non-bailable' also. Our constitution gives right to equality so everyone, irrespective of their sex, caste or religion, has equal rights. Now a question comes to mind: If "driving the women to suicide" is a crime why "driving the men to suicide" is not an equivalent crime even when there has been numerous cases related to this?.
