In the recently concluded Rio Olympics 2016, India sent its largest ever Olympic contingent comprising of 118 athletes. Despite the large number of athletes, the Indian contingent managed to bag only 2 medals in the Games viz., one Silver medal in Badminton and one Bronze medal in Wrestling. Considering the size of our country it can be said that the present performance was not up to the country’s potential. Views/suggestions are invited on what specific steps need to be taken to realise full sporting potential of India in forthcoming Olympics in 2020, 2024 and 2028.

#MoYAS: Revamp the Sports Bodies. Some have outlived their utilities. Let us focus on sports where there is realistic chance of getting a medal - Wrestling, Weight Lifting, Badminton,Shooting & may be Tennis. Identifying the talent at young age, scintific coaching & international exposure are important. More grant to these sports & if possible, corporates may be persuaded to donate. Spend money in infrastructure, rather than giving tens of crores to winners. Punish those who fail dope test.

#MoYAS: There is no point in sending hundreds of athletes to Olympics who eventually become an embarrassment to India. Serious ailments need radical treatment. Swimmimg is never our strong point. India has not won a medal in Athletics in last 116 years. Hockey was our pride, but has lost its shine since 1975, when India won the World Cup Gold. I do not rate Moscow Olympic Gold in 1980 high, because major hockey playing countries boycotted. Let us first not send teams in these events.

Complete overhaul of the functioning / administration is required for all state and national sports associations. Currently , there are various factions in all sports association which are constantly at loggerheads with each other to corner the pecuniary and monetary benefits. The identification of talent and grooming of the same has taken a backseat in most of the sports associations.

Starting at the school level - minimum sports facilities that must be part of schools infrastructure needs to be mandated through a statute for all private schools which are charging thousands of rupees of fees per month but hardly carrying out any sports activities for all students. Annual Sports Day should be compulsory for every school and this must be attended by State sports association representatives to ensure that basic standards are being followed in conducting the sporting events.

We need a proper committee which can chalk out the plan regarding budget and training of players for at least next 3 Olympics. Money should be spent in making the players. What is the use of giving crores of rupees and adorning them with govt.jobs when their career is already at peak? Planned policies are required to be made starting from school level to give emphasis on sports, which would help in identifying talents at the tender age that would lead the nation in future.

Respected sir , mostly this happening in many parts of country to consider SPORT as an EXERCISE or MAKING COUNT IN ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE BY SPORTS COTA. There is still mentally to consider it as a career. In many minds , due to some social and economic problems sports as a career remains as a Dream only. I would like to contribute my view on this to have SPORTS UNIVERSITIES , BEST COACHING, AVAILABILITY OF PROPER EQUIPMENTS, SUPPORTING MILLIONS DREAMS .

Sports facilities and centres for sports promotion and talent in every city. Schools must also be bound to have a minimum of three sports and there facilities. Institutions must consider about 30 percent of sports achievements in admission

sir, there is major fear of people who feel to go in sports side. They feel that if they go to sports category right from childhood and what if they didn't get any job after they grown up. It would be waste of learning sports from childhood. I suggest that there should be sports quota in private sector too. This makes people intrest in going to sprts side.

Sir, i'm student of 9th grade (hyd, telangana). There is neither a ground nor a sports kit in my school. There r many kids vid great intrest on sports, but they r getting suppresed by school authorities and their parents. Parents feel that they couldn't afford for their child in sports. And they r not sure of succes and income after they grown up. that is only the fear of all middle class families
