Water is a vital resource for life, and for the economy. Nowadays, one of the most serious challenges to solve and manage the water scarcity. With the depletion of water resources, the demand for quality water is increasing day by day. Water utilities are under pressure to provide good quality water, but are struggling with their outdated infrastructure at the same time. Furthermore, one of the major concerns of water utilities is the increasing wastage and pollution of water bodies caused due to metering errors, leaks, pipe bursts, and industrial waste. To manage all these issues, water utilities have to come up with smart water management solutions and techniques.

IoT may be used in potable water monitoring tools to monitor the quality of tap water in all government owned education institutes and public places. It should be applied in real-time detection of leakages and wastes of factories in rivers and other natural water bodies. It can also be used in monitoring of water level variations in rivers, dams and reservoirs, for proactive disaster management.

Smart water management is the combination of smart hardware, smart solutions, and smart services integrated together to minimize wastage and optimize the utilization. Intelligent use of information and analytics can be leveraged to deliver improved outcomes across the water management lifecycle.

With the help of this discussion platform we request you to share your valuable inputs on how IOT can be used in:

• Demand Forecasting and Allocation of water resources
• Water Quality Testing
• Infrastructure Management
• Improve Preparedness and Response to water management system

Your suggestions on the above topics will help us to make an integrated view and plan of action for Smart Water development by applying IoT and analytics.

In my opinion most of the water is getting wasted in following ways 1) rivers flowing into sea before it is routed to cities or crops 2) water taps are a biggest cause for wasting ground water so we have to prevent this waste by 1) constructing enough dams or 2) inter connect rivers in a state or locality which ever is best possible 3) install water taps which can optimize water usage if eliminating taps is not possible one more thing most of the house hold water can be recycled and

Force industries to use heavy filters after using water and reuse this water or filter water at least it could not damage agriculture and drinking water quality, means that it can be reuse after filtering at at-least one place and don't spoil rivers and other water resources.

smart water means- multiple use of same water. 1.kitchen and bathroom water goes into garden. 2.dam water goes into agriculture land after generate electricity. 3. sewerage water goes into farm after treatment process. etc

The answer lies in our acient architectures like Agarsen ki Baudi in Delhi. An underground bunker for storing rain water can be made hence no land procurement problems, further this water can be pumped into borewell if storage limit is reached. This will benifit all and cost effective method due to modern tunell digging technology.

Considering water wastage by us, installing water meters to monitor the usage of water per house hold/society, beyond the minimum usage limit can be charged to the public during acute water shortage periods. We can also try to set up desalination plants for purifying sea water for industrial purpose and can also be served to general public during drought / acute water shortage period.

A large quantity of water is wasted by flushing the toilet after urinating where one mug of water will serve the purpose. While imposing strict conditions on new building constructions to use 1/2 and full flush tanks, the people not having the same should be persuaded to install the same by giving some incentives and backed by advertising in TV,Radio,Newspapers and other periodicals. Good amount of water can be saved by this method.
