As the Indian population continues to grow there will be an immense competition for natural resources while achieving food, nutritional, environmental and livelihood security in the country. In addition, the negative consequences of climate change become more evident in agriculture with exploitation of natural resources, decline in soil fertility, ground water levels to meet the ever increasing demands for food and nutritional requirements. To maintain sustainable balance between natural resources and the demand, immediate attention is needed in several areas viz., imbalanced use of fertilizers, declining soil organic carbon, lowering of water table, soil health, organic farming and climate change impact in agriculture sector.

Recent studies on soil biodiversity, rapid composting techniques, use of bio-filters for removal of heavy metals from compost, application of Nano sensors in agriculture to improve nutrient use efficiency, need based fortification of micro nutrients; availability of soil health card, conservation agriculture for enhancing soil health etc. will support sustainable management of natural resources in agriculture.

With a particular focus on scientific and technical understanding of natural resources management, this portal tries to incorporate stakeholders suggestions in achieving sustainable natural resources management.

Serious we should focus on growing trees along highways and even in cities. Municipal corporation should be made accountable for planting trees

To encounter all these the government can initiate mass tree planting campaign every year. They can fix one day as national tree planting day and they can supply free saplings to all the citizens to plant the trees.

Sir, I appreciate your thoughts and your work in this direction. But if only 1 person works in a country of a billion people, it won't work. I want that all of us shouls work in this direction. I have seen many villagers selling off their agricultural land to builders in my area because they see short term profits. Earlier forests were cut and turned into agricultural land. Now agricultural land is being converted to buildings. If this continues, we will lose the status of a megabiodiversity nat
