India has an estimated 20.9 lakh people living with HIV. However, nearly 30 -35 percent of these do not know there HIV status. After a person gets infected with HIV, there is a long asymptomatic period of 5-8 years when infected person may not have any symptoms till his immunity goes down significantly and he start getting different opportunistic infection like TB, diarrhoea, fungal infection etc. Hence most of the HIV infected persons present to health system in late stage when immunity is very low and their response to treatment may not be optimal. Also during this long asymptomatic period of 5-8 years, though they are infected but may not be aware of HIV status and are capable of spreading the infection their spouse or others if they continue to indulge unprotected sex.

Early detection of PLHIV is beneficial for patient himself as he can receive timely appropriate treatment including ART as well as for the community to stop further transmission of HIV.

We invite suggestion from community/ NGO/ CBO/ Civil society and public at large their views/ ideas on How to facilitate early detection of People Living with HIV (PLHIV) and put them on ART as soon as possible.

Through mass advertisement appeal should be made regularly through radio and TV about ART, its address and facilities they provide. The doctors whose clinics are at red light zone should be taken in confidence to support this system. Specialised Hospital of HIV should be there.

Good health physical & social depends upon 1)what and how we eat, drink and breathe. 2) communicate & interact. Any discrepancies in these leads to health problems. Medicines are only a temporary and costly way to comfort illnesses. Unless we 1) reduce our population, 2) clean our environment, 3) educate people about methods to strengthen immunity & avoid diseases, healthy India will remain a dream too far.

Many people suffering from HIV don't know that they are affected by that disease. In India no one goes for just regular medical check ups. it can only be identified when such person approaches any doctor or hospital. so it should be made compulsory for all hospitals to send the information about such affected person within 24 hours to Civil Surgeon of Government Hospital in Confidential letter. Also the so called clinics which claim to cure that disease should made compulsory to share details.

Medicines and medical services are very costly now a days. In India where most of the people are unable to afford proper medical services, government shall not put tax on the medicines and medical services. This would give the people much needed relief from heavily priced medical services.
